The message came in from the bridge, and Bones jumped, even though he'd been waiting for it ever since he'd woken up.
Away team, beaming straight to sick bay.
Everyone had been notified about the away team's departure while he was unconscious, and they had assembled in sickbay. Now turning to look at them, he took a deep breath and nodded.
Bones moved over to the counter, sterilizing his hands and leaning down as one of the nurses masked him. He could hear M'Benga triaging the most serious injured.
"Patient one - second degree phaser burn to chest, chemical burns, covered in some sort of alien chemical, crushed thorax - wait -" he paused, the sound of the tricorder being run, "- There some sort of toxin inside his blood, a chemical, looks like a plant extract." M'Benga looked over at the older McCoy. "His neurocortal scans are up and down, it's affecting his brain activity. Whatever it is, its nothing we've seen before."
"That one's McCoy's then?" Bones called out, M'Benga nodding back in agreement, already on the second patient. The older CMO would get anything that looked like it was more alien, more 'involved' than the younger crew had experience with - the other McCoy had seen a hell of a lot more out in space than Bones, and he knew it.
"The other one?" Bones called out.
"Blunt force, trauma, and a lot of it," the doctor called out to Bones, the patient already being moved to the table in front of him.
Even without looking at the face, covered in blood and dirt and something that looked thick and black and oily, Bones knew who it was in front of him. Jim, what the fuck did they do to you?. He placed his hand over Kirk's heart, his own beating in time with the strong beat, always strong no matter what pulsed quietly in Jim's chest. Bones' eyes widened slightly as he felt the trace of the bond, that bond that Spock showed him was there, red and gold and alive. They were linked in a way that defied any explanation for him and in that moment, feeling that heart beneath his, Bones knew that Jim would live.
They were watching him.
"I need 10 ccs of triptacederine and a hypo, standard dosage of ambizine, now," Bones barked out to the nearest nurse, who handed him a hypospray. "Set the osteoregenerator at 50% and get it going on that left hand.
Tina was approaching now. "You take care if that phaser burn," he said quickly, his own hands already moving onto the broken ribs, his hands feeling the fractures as well as any scanner. "And can someone start geting him cleaned up? Get this shit off of him."
M'Benga looked to the rest of the nurses that remained, gesturing. "Patient Three," The tricorder hummed, "Toxin, possible sedative, wound on the arm. Figure out what it is, nurse."
"Patient Four," M'Benga quickly started to deal with the next patient, "Cracked collarbone, damage to the liver, lungs, internal bleeding. Ruptured spleen, if that is a spleen. We need those extra bags of blood, step on it!"
"Patient Five - Stab wound to the upper shoulder," He hesitated, "Neural readings off the charts!"
