A beach on Risa... (Kirk/McCoy)

Aug 10, 2009 21:56

After finishing his conversation with George, Bones remained sitting down, listening to the waves, the birds flying overhead, and the wind blowing softly through the trees. He didn't spot another person, though. They were truly by themselves here ( Read more... )

When the transport finished, Kirk took a slow, deep breath. Crimson light from two setting suns curled around him, making him look out over the beautiful ocean. He smiled slowly, feeling a bit of himself relax even if his chest still felt like it was in a vice.

He hunched his shoulder, turning to go find the bedroom, when he caught a beautiful sight. Bones was laid out in a chair, book on his chest, asleep, caught in the last of the sun's rays. Kirk bit his lip, and ducked away only long enough to put his bag in the bedroom before coming back out.

He slowly sat down on the ground beside the chair, just laying his head on Bones' thigh. He didn't want to wake the doctor... Bones just looked to peaceful. Kirk closed his own eyes, ignoring his aching hands, and let himself drift slowly. Not quite asleep... just... resting.

He didn't know how long he'd been asleep, only that the sky had changed color again, the two moons coming into view. Warm pressure on his leg, he cracked an eye and saw Jim sitting there.

Fingers threading through his hair, he watched Jim's face, peaceful now, placid and calm like the water now that the tides had subsided.

If only it could stay that way.

After some length of time, Kirk's eyes very slowly opened. He looked up towards Bones, eyes sleepy and relaxed. A very soft smile touched his lips, "...hey." He whispered.

Bones stared down at Jim for a long moment, his fingers still moving gently. His free hand lifted the book off his body and dropped it on the table next to him.

Pushing himself off the chair, he slid down until he was sitting on the floor next to Jim, wrapping an arm around him.

There were questions to ask, so many things to talk about but those could all wait as he leaned in and gave him a deep, lingering kiss. Right now, he needed this, needed to feel Jim's mouth on his, and he suspected Jim might need the same.

Kirk let out a slow breath through his nose, his eyes closing. The kiss was deep, but infinitely sweet even its gentleness. It was something he needed deeply, just to reassure himself that Bones was okay.. and so was he.

He broke the kiss only to lay his forehead against Bones', sighing. "...Glad to be here."

"That makes two of us, even if I'm not sure where here is," he answered quietly, nuzzling Jim's mouth with his. "This place is amazing."

Bones pulled his head back, tilting so he could get a better look at Jim. "How did it go?" he asked, his eyes filled with worry, but he had to get the question out of the way before he could even think about enjoying himself.

"Just a little south of the main drag, according to the map they sent me." Kirk murmured, looking back to Bones. He gave a smile, playing it off easy, "The board I had to face for cheating was worse." A good lie.

An obvious lie, Bones thought, cradling Jim's face in his hands. "Tell me about it later?" he asked.

"...Don't think I want to talk about it." He muttered, eyes glancing away, the smile falling to the side. "Just.. want to be here."

"Okay," Bones answered him, just sitting next to him, one arm slung around Jim's shoulder. They sat there like that for a moment, looking out over the water, just being still, just being together.

One hand reached out for another, and Bones looked down at their fingers. Something caught his eye... lifting Jim's hand, he frowned, recognizing the tell-tale half-moon tears in the tender skin. Goddamned fuckers.

Bones closed his eyes, then leaned over, standing. He walked back into the bedroom, reached into his bag and pulled out his tricorder.

Sitting back down next to Jim, he pulled each hand into his, silently sealing and disinfecting the cuts, then kissed each fingertip. "Hungry?" he asked, determined not to ask anything else tonight about what happened.

Kirk sat through the procedure in silence, allowing Bones to do what he needed. There was a shiver that sang through his hands as the other's dry lips touched a fingertip. Such the benefits of having a doctor as a best friend. He honestly didn't want to talk about what happened, least not tonight, but he'd have to. He'd have to vent off everything that had happened, get really good an angry at it ( ... )

He allowed himself to be slowly pulled up. "I don't want to see anyone right now," he admitted, looking down. "That all right? I just-" he shook his head. "Not tonight. I just need-" They were standing close, close enough for Bones to see the weary look on Jim's face - not just physical but mental, emotional - this had been a very rough couple of weeks for both of them.

He nudged Jim's shoulder, playfully, like he always had. Right now, maybe they needed to be just guys again, just Jim and Bones. It was easier to step back into that, knowing that Jim had gotten this place for them, had made those arrangements with both of them in mind, knowing that they'd be spending tonight together in that big bed. "I saw some steaks in the fridge," he said, stepping back to walk toward the kitchen, "real terran cows, I think. I'll get those grillin' if you want to make a salad or anything else you find. And then," his eyes twinkled sort of playfully, "I'll tell you something interesting I saw in sickbay before I left."

The look Kirk gave Bones as he said those first words would tell Bones everything he needed to know. That Kirk agreed whole heartedly, completely, and utterly.

Bones knew Kirk, probably better then Kirk knew himself sometimes. When he mentioned the steaks? Kirk's eyes just lit up, "Seriously, real beef?" He asked, practically drooling at the idea. Maybe it came from growing up in Iowa where meat was hardly lacking and then having to deal with replicated meat (and definitely being able to tell the difference), but the idea of a real steak made him light up.

"Fuck yea. Salad, steak... only better if they had some corn." He grinned, "Just like a real barbecue."

"Corn," he muttered as he pulled the packages of meat out of the fridge, laughing. "Fuckin' Iowa," he added for good effect. "Had to hear all about the merits of that state the other night with the other Jim and your dad."

The light in Jim's eyes... Leonard couldn't help but playfully brush against him, bumping their hips as he moved out of the kitchen. "There's some beer in there too. Local, but not bad."

He stepped outside to find the grill, pressing a few buttons and watching as it lit up immediately. "Gorgeous," he said in a low voice, admiring the device. This place was a combination of simplicity and state of the art.

That bit of information made Kirk laugh, a real, true laugh. He grinned towards Bones, "I won't add to it then. I'm sure they had plenty to say." The whole thing amused him completely.

Kirk went to the fridge and dug in, grabbing two deliciously cold bottles. A little digging found a bottle opener and he came out to where Bones was. He popped one of the bottles and with a tap put it down on the edge of the grill so it would be in Bones' easy reaching distance.

His own he sat down with, kicking back, and took a long drink. Fuck, he missed a good beer.

"So, you'll never believe what I saw when the other me work up," he began, reaching over to grab the beer and take a long swig himself.
