And it happened, what had been threatening to happen since this fiasco began - Bones broke down. He looked at his hands, saw them shaking in front of him and as he sat back down on the chair next to Jim's bed, he caught a glance at Jim's face, so peaceful now, but the markings stood out in the dim light, making Jim look almost alien, like one of them. "Goddammit..."
He hadn't realized he was crying until someone stepped behind him, a soft voice asking if he needed anything and he felt the wetness on his face as he turned away from them. "Just fucking leave me alone," he growled to whoever was behind him, he didn't even know. He heard the footsteps walk off, whispers from the other side of the room, and he didn't fucking care. It all came out now - long, chocking sobs that racked his whole body, would have fallen to the ground if he hadn't been sitting, clutching tight to the pillow on Kirk's bed.
He let it all out, everything that had been eating at him inside, only Kirk's prone body next to him keeping him from tearing apart the bed and equipment next to him.
He stayed there, unknowing, uncaring who was watching until he fell asleep from sheer exhaustion.
Only after he was silent and asleep did some kind soul toss a blanket over him.
