So. "Gintama" (Tagalog dub) premiered on ABS-CBN just now.
[*] They merrily skipped eps. 1 to 4 and started from episode 5. My theory is that they started from there because it partly has Edo's and Gintoki's backstory in it, and that they will go back to episode 1 tomorrow. Just a theory of mine.
(UPDATE: ABS-CBN Animation has just released a statement on their Facebook page re: ordering of episodes: "Hello! We re-arranged the episodes of Gintama for the younger viewers to understand it better. Thanks for watching our pilot!" Uh, OK...)
[*] Gintoki's VA was OK, but he did have some problems with line delivery. So did Shinpachi's. And Kagura's pitch was just WAAAY TOO HIGH. And a number of other characters also had line delivery problems.
[*] Some proper nouns were pronounced correctly by some characters, but not by others. Case in point: Katsura (...did I just hear a "Katchura"?!) and Shinsengumi.
[*] And there are some which NO ONE CAN PRONOUNCE CORRECTLY. AT ALL. Case in point: Gintoki. (The stress was put on 'to' and not on 'gin,' so it sounded like 'Ginto-ki.')
[*] There are lost-in-translation moments (naturally).
[*] ...And SCENE CUTS. (EDIT: Oh, its only the introduction and the omake bit at the end that got cut. Oh well.)
Overall, the dub was so-so. Some aspects definitely need improvement. And STOP CUTTING SCENES PLZ (except of course if MTRCB says so *shakes fists at MTRCB*)
But I personally enjoyed watching that episode. Partly because of the "Tumawag ka ng ambulansya!" "AMBULANSYA~!!!" joke. (Yes, mababaw ang kaligayahan ko. Shut up XD) And partly because I've only seen the first two episodes of Gintama in subs. *looks for streams* EDIT: Watched ep. 5 in subs just now. Comments above edited to reflect the changes.
And yes, this calls for a Gintama icon :D
