It's been too long since I updated LJ, but I'm here now damzit!!!
In many ways, I think that I'll be looking back on this year for many more to come. From a career and business standpoint, this was without question, the best I've ever seen and 2009 looks even better. This was(and technically continues to be) a year of the Rat, so I'm thankful for Chinese Astrology!
I've decided to divide up my perspectives into things I'm proud of or things I'd rather not talk about...but will.
Things I'm proud of in 2008
---------------------------------------
-I opened a 401K.
-We got our back porch carpeted and setup with new furniture, which has radically improved our ability to entertain for parties as well as changed the usage of the place completely.
-I witnessed my youngest son earn his Black Belt in TKD and saw my wife take up the art as well.
-I swam with a dolphin and enjoyed the sunset in the keys with my family
-We finally took the plunge and recarpeted and furnished our house while getting rid of alot of other junk.
-My family got to know our nieces and nephews (and cousins) again.
-Shareholders of ZG sold a company we had worked very hard on for 6 years
-ZG got to work on projects and platforms that seems alot further away a year ago.
-I realized that the Mac is the most productive platform that I've worked on in years and will not likely return to a PC (since I can run Windoze on the Mac too)
-I finished ripping my entire CD collection
-I saw a sunset from the Santa Monica Pier and drove PCH in a convertible.
-I got to participate in Project Horseshoe and work enjoyably closely with several of my colleagues than I had ever could at a GDC.
-I had the chance to help elect a President who I hope will give us the leadership we desperately need.
-I still feel like a good man.
Things I'm not proud of in 2008
-------------------------------------------
-My damned trees are still not trimmed. Now one of the trees has died, though I'm sure these things are unrelated.
-Our yard is still a mess on the whole.
-I'm still completely out of shape without a plan.
-I'm bandwidth maxed
-I've missed a couple of opportunities to help provide some guidance to some good friends. I can't explain my silence.
-I didn't keep in touch with folks as much as I would have hoped too. Facebook is not a replacement for phone calls.
-I need a new car -- Need is the proper term here. The one I'm driving is falling apart (1990 Accord for those keeping score)
-My LJ updates are a sad state of affairs.
