Today/tomorrow marks 150 years since the battle at Fort Sumter which began the first American Civil War. Actually, I have come to the conclusion that the hostilities occurring between 1861 and 1865 were not a civil war, since the CSA had already seceded from the United States. In support of the legitimacy of the secession, I cite Rule #3 of the Guide to Computer System Operation, which reads:
Rule 3: Read the manual for what it does not say that you cannot do, then try it. (When considering the American Civil war of 1861-1865, execute the sed command s/manual/Constitution).
By the way, I also obliquely mention West Virginia.
For those interested, the other rules of the Guide are:
Rule 1: Read the manual for what it says you can do, then do it.
Rule 2: Read the manual for what it says you cannot do, then try it anyway.
