OK, so I knew I had a dopey mother-in-law, but this beats all.
I was coming home late from work, so I decided to call to tell her not to wait for me and to get herself and Caitlyn some dinner. Caitlyn answers the phone. She sounds depressed. I ask her what's wrong. She says she didn't have such a great day. I asked her to tell me about it. She says "Grandma doesn't want me to tell you..."
...say what?!!???
Caitlyn goes to Grandma to get her on the phone. The ensuing conversation went something like this:
Gma: Hi!
Me: What's up?
Gma: Oh, we had sort of a crummy day.
Me: Why?
Gma: Well, it started off with a power outage, and I can't read my email or get to any webpages. Then, we went in to [town] and on the way back the car overheated.
Me: How'd you get home?
Gma: I called AAA and had it towed home.
...say what?!!???
Gma: Well, the tow company said they'd tow me to [7 miles away] or to [10 miles away], but I said no, and had them tow us home [25 miles away!!!]
Me: How much did *that* cost you?
Gma: Around $100.
...now, I have a dead car in my driveway a good 15 miles from any service station with no way to get it serviced. I'll be damned if I'm going to pay the bill for the tow, and hubby better not even consider it. Grrrr...
