So after my second viewing of Van Helsing, I've determined that I really like these tongue in cheek over the top movies. I have lost a great deal of respect for the many many movie reviewers who have blasted the makers of Van Helsing. People are welcome to their opinions, I will never question that right. The problem is that their complaints are typically something along the lines of, this movie is way overdone, stupidly dramatic, with laughably exaggerated action. Of course it is, that was the idea. A fair review would be, "this movie is a joke, if you like jokes, then you'll like this movie." I have seen few of these reviews, which is why I haven't seen too many of these types of movies. I would say that the Punisher falls in the same category, over the top action, a multitude of one-liners, and unfortunatly pages and pages of bad reviews. To me, saying that these movies are over the top and therefor bad, is like saying southpark is bad because it is Politically incorrect. It saddens me that reviewers are going to kill the art of the bad movie. I can only hope that Van Helsing makes enough money to earn a sequel, the Punisher certainly didn't, though it deserved to. How about a Hellboy Van Helsing crossover? Van Helsing doesn't age, and he fights the same shit that goes bump in the night. Both of these franchises have potential, and I would prefer it to a Van Helsing Vs. The Mummy. Until these possibly brilliant movies are made though, I'm going to go on a search for other movies that I didn't realize were jokes at the time. I'm gonna give Starship Troopers another shot, now that I'm pretty sure I wasn't supposed to take it seriously. Another other suggestions are welcome.
