So I was watching Judging Amy today with Jackie because she had it on. Things I don't realize: that show is kinda messed up. Or at least the two episodes we saw today were.
At the end of the first episode, it showed Amy's mom, Maxine, in the kitchen smashing plates because of the repulsiveness she had just experienced with one of her child abuse cases. Had I not seen the entire episode, maybe the next part wouldn't have been so... sentimental for me. As Maxine was about to throw another piece of dinnerware at the sink, Amy stopped her. Not forcefully, but with care and a gentle reach for her hand. She turned around to place the cup on the counter, and as she returned to face her mother, Maxine, she put her head on Amy's shoulder and started crying. For Maxine, it's not normal to cry in front of people. Amy looked confused at first, but then you could see it. It was that moment of inner embrace. Where the viewer could see the stiffness leave Amy's body as she let her mother cry on her shoulder. And then she put her hand to Maxine's face and brushed the hair away from it. The outer embrace.
It was a touching moment, and I think I just really love the reality of how a person can let someone else's pain affect them. It shows a love and deep concern.
I also enjoy that inner embrace. Someone letting their guard down for you. It doesn't always have to be for such a... justified reason, even just a simple hug that's saying hello. That moment where you can tell you are being accepted into their arms..... feels so nice.
That's love of all sorts.
