Story about an amazing person

Sometimes the effort people make astound you.

Let's step back a few days....

I was in day 3 or so of my classroom training to learn how to use the computer system used at the front desks of all disney resorts. Someone in my class had made a comment about how the screens were so complicated and how sometimes she had trouble reading it. One of the facilitators that day starts to talk about a front desk attendant at one of the hotels who is visually impaired, who also happens to be a Traditions team member (traditions is the first class any cast member ever takes). She was raving about this lady because she's so dedicated and nice, just an all around wonderful person.

Because of her impairment, she uses a special program installed on one of the front desk computers at the resort she works at that magnifies the screen by like, 100 times in order to read the screen. The facilitator was talking about how this person (her name is Sabrina) doesn't let anything stop her from doing what she wants or loves.

To continue the story and come back to the present (somewhat), I started my first day of on the job training yesterday.

Sabrina is my trainer for my 9 days of front desk training. She is.... like I said... amazing. Here's a couple of things she did that made me feel incredibly comfortable, and just... well.... welcome there:
- introduced me to everybody that was working there
- took me into the back room a lot when she wanted to explain something to me
- was always afraid that she was throwing too much information at me, when she really wasn't
- going to the cafeteria for lunch with me when she already brought her lunch and could've stayed in the area behind the front desk to have her lunch
- asked me exactly what I was and wasn't comfortable with
- didn't pressure me to do anything I wasn't comfortable with
- made mistakes, and told me that it was okay to do so, as long as they aren't always reoccurring
- tried not to use her magnifying program so I could see what was going on (which didn't matter to me if she had used it because I already know where everything is located on the screen and knew what she was doing)
- had me go out to greet guests in the lobby, while learning the Hokelau (a type of Hula dance)
- informed me of her poor vision before we went out on the floor and was explaining it to me so I wouldn't be freaked out (which I really wasn't at all)
- always made good conversation with me
- wasn't afraid to be real with me (when we were in offstage areas, she would swear on occasion when getting really involved in stories she was telling me, including one about some international college program guy from her day who tried to make a move on her when she was just trying to be a good friend lol)

I had an incredible first day at the Polynesian. I know not every day will be this good, but I'm hoping.
