J.D. was still skipping through Gotham. Sure, the welcome wasn't warm, but she wasn't going to let that stop her. A girl in a puffy Alice-Lolita style dress in bright colors and clunky shoes and face paint should be a welcome sight.

To some of the children, she was. Most of the adults though...

It hurt her. A city without much hope. Without laughter. A place like that was hardly a city at all.

Two large round men, dressed in identical striped shirts and beanie caps, hop out in front of her, forming a wall.

They eye her suspiciously.

They shuffle towards her.

"You should come with us to meet the Queen."

"She wants to meet Alices."

"You're an Alice."

"That's manners."

"Oooh! Do I get to play croquet with hedgehogs and flamingos? I loved that in the book when I was a kid. Dad used to totally read it to me all the time. And I insist it be the real version because the movie is kind of lame, but the other movie coming out might be okay," J.D. said, thinking about it.
