He's going away to support his family. She has to laugh at the irony. Save Amelia's coma, she and Caleb have never been parted for very long or very far. Even in 2006, when she pretended to be 'moving on' with her life, she was keeping an eye on his goings-on. They say you never really learn how to stop babysitting the kid sibling that was your responsibility, only problem being that Amelia is the younger one.
Underneath the quickly thickening bliss, she's trying to pretend she doesn't much care about Green Shield's absence. It isn't as if they've really hung out. Things haven't been the same for a while, and now the first friend she ever made-- and lost-- in this waking world is leaving the planet.
Ah, but faith is a lot easier to have once you've had the wisdom at the bottom of the bottle.
