it's the waiting that gets you

It had been a couple of days since Cissie had revealed that Green Arrow might be her real father. Now, all that was left to do was to wait for Tim to get back with the results. He was supposed to do that thing that he did so well and find out for her. She hoped ( Read more... )

"Even our wonder-robin has to let the tests take their time, or else the results could be wrong," Cassie responded, rubbing Cissie's back comfortingly.

Her back was full of tension. "I know... I know..." Really. She knew or liked to think she knew.

Tim - looking like a perfectly normal college student in his jeans, close-fiting t-shirt and backpack - knocked on Cissie's door. Having the bag gave him somewhere to keep the information he'd run for Cissie, and the Biology textbook gave him a reason to have something that looked like a DNA test if some idiot decided to screw with him.

Not that he expected it to happen, but he was the Robin who was prepared for everything.

He waited, bag hanging off one shoulder.

Thud! That sound would be the sound of Cissie falling off of her sofa as she tried to get up and get to the door quickly. Unfortunately, she tripped over her own feet in the process.

Cissie stood up and walked very quickly to the door. She was wearing a red short-sleeved t-shirt over a white, long-sleeved one with a pair of jeans. The door was practically thrown open. "Tim! Good! Do you have them?" She resisted the urge to pull him in and slam the door behind him.

"It's Tim," Cassie said, taking a moment to admire the fact Tim's clothes didn't look half bad on him. And the fact that he no longer looked like his grandpa was dressing him.

Thank you, Tim had never met his grandfather. And he wasn't even chuckling - or even smiling - at the sound of what had to have been Cissie taking a header into something.

"Yeah." He slipped past her, and walked over to drop his bag on the couch. "You.. probably ought to sit down." If she was tripping already, maybe she ought to sit down no matter what his news was.

Cissie sat back down. "Well? Did you get them? Did anyone find out?"

"Of course he's got the results," Cassie said, glancing at Tim for any indication of them. "But this is your last chance to just decide it doesn't matter, Cissie. Do you really want to know who your dad is?"

Tim nodded in Cassie's direction, and waited. "I've got them, but are you sure?" He didn't want her to regret it.

Cissie was forced to stop and think for a moment. It wouldn't change anything. Bowstring was her father. He'd been the one to teach her how to ride a bike. He'd been the one that read her bedtime stories. He was there. So even if Green Arrow was her biological father, it wouldn't change a thing.

"I'm sure."

"She's sure," Cassie tilted her head in a half shrug.

Tim unzipped his bag, and then glanced at Cassie. "Polly want a cracker?"

He pulled out the small packet of printouts, and handed them to Cissie. "Nobody knows what I was checking, and I erased my work afterwards." He let Cissie at least look at the pages.

"Oliver Queen is your biological father."

"Thank you Tim."

. . .

"Okay." She took the printouts and looked over them or rather her eyes went over the pages but she didn't really read them. "Great." She sat the papers down on the end table that was next to the sofa. "Really, great."

"Cissie?" Cassie put her hand on Cissie's shoulder.

Tim left his bag to walk over and drop to a crouch in front of Cissie. He wasn't good at this comfort thing even now, but he could offer.

She looked up. "Guys? It's okay. Really. It's fine."
