When PR is a bad, bad idea (open to Vera Black and any of the Elite)

Given that her primary function on the team was to act as a transporter, Zephyra was taking the time to check out the vehicles officially assigned to the team for transportation. Overall, they seemed to be in good condition. A truck, a fairly non-descript white van, and a small civilian-class aircraft were available for use. She was going to ( Read more... )

"Oh, the van and the truck are more powerful than they look," said Zephyra, patting the van. "The plane, unfortunately, is exactly as powerful as it looks, which is not very powerful, but I need to upgrade my piloting liscense to be able to pilot anything that's not for civilians."

She didn't have a mechanic's knowledge of cars and other vehicles, but she did know enough to not be taken advantage of, and to know what was possible and what wasn't. She also knew how to fix the basics. It was all part of working in transport.

"The van looks plain and ordinary, but both it and the truck are discreetly armored. The van's got a 500 horsepower engine, and the truck has 660. I'd be embarrassed if I had trouble keeping up with a police cruiser in that van - it should have no problems outrunning one. The truck...eh. It's big. It's meant for big cargo. If I had to pursue someone in it, I could, but navigating corners would be a pain."

She hadn't expected her specifications to be taken so seriously. But there they were. They'd even gotten the heated seats, albeit only for the front and passenger side. There was also a small cooler where the glove compartment would normally be, and a first aid kit had been put inside the van as well.

"Just so long as I'm not in it, probably," Cliff said, of the van. "Something like that, I'll just slow you down." Being several hundred pounds of metal would do that do a guy.

"Still... not too shabby for government work."

"Depends on what we're aiming for, Gov," Vera smirks, patting him on the shoulder.

"Technically, if we really need to make an emergency getaway, I'd be teleporting us out of there anyhow," said Zephyra. "That is the main reason I was hired, after all. The ability to teleport en masse and across long distances. The van would just make it convenient for knowing where you all are and reducing the odds of anyone arriving with bullet wounds."

Teleportation for chasing down criminals was less ideal - this was where vehicles were more useful. One had to know exactly where the criminals were going. In that case, it would be better to let them get to their hideout, and use the teleportation to get past their security systems.

Cliff, on the other hand, was hired to hit things. Oh yeah, and that whole field leader thing.

He nods. "Not too shabby, either way. Looks like this cockamamie team thing might actually work."

"And I finally have someone to play Hide-And-Seek with." Not that she really had to wait that long.

There's a Russian voice with a short woman attached to it suddenly beside Zephyra. Amelia has an electronics tool pouch in her pocket, and grease on her jeans and hands as she puts it out to the new person.

"What do you think, Ms. Z?" Vera smiles at her. "Think you can make these vehicles do more than they should?"

"Are you kidding? If only The Wall would let me bring half of it in. Riding with me is safer than airbags, though."

She smirks at Zephyra. "And sometimes better. Staaya. And you?"

"Spatial," replied Zephyra. "I'm up for hide and go seek whenever you are. Depending on your range, it could be like 'Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?', minus the big red hat."

She loved that show when she was a kid. It would also be interesting to play her abilities off of another teleporter. While it wasn't her job to be team leader, she could always suggest some teamwork exercises that would be more fun than painful. As long as the result was being well-coordinated, it didn't hurt to have a bit of fun now and then. Professionalism came first, of course, but work didn't need to be serious one hundred percent of the time to be professional.

"Oh, the hat is what it's all about!" Amelia corrects her. And the coat, too; you had to have the coat.

Either way, Amelia was always up for sparring with hot chicks. She's shallow that way. "My range is a couple of hundred miles, max, but it'd still be fun."
