Ian sighs. This has to be the most indirect way to England that he's ever been.
Not a single ticket available out of Providence. Not a one. Not for at least a day.
He could have gone to New York and flown out from there, but a thought struck him, and he wanted to confirm something in Gotham City's library. One of their rare books had information that, in retrospect of his new discovery, might lead him to uncover more than just the Castle DeHautdesert and the artifacts he believes are there. Thus, he took a short-range plane to Gotham, checked out the library, and did his research.
Forget locating the Castle DeHautdesert -- if he had found Camelot, then he wouldn't just be set for life. He'd be the new Howard Carter!
Only... you know... less exploitative.
But his research bore nothing for him.
He leaves the library as the lights are being turned off behind him, and he wraps his coat tightly around him. The chill in the air freezes his breath into a fog, and he looks around, remembering the stories he's heard about the dangers of Gotham.
He steps out to the street to hail a cab. The sooner he can get on his plane and get to London, the better.
The cab pulls over.
"The airport," he asks, opening the door...
But before he gets in, he sees a glint of metal.
There's the sound of a gunshot.
And Ian feels a sudden pain in his chest as he falls to his knees.
