The first living being they see comes at them before they reach the ground.

Heat vision blazing.

Several dozen Manhunters head towards Superman, hoping to swarm him into submission.

That might be slightly difficult, as the second to show up is none other than J'onn J'onnz.

"Ahem..." the Martian says, clearing his throat

"J'ONN SMASH!" He cries, the fists of the Martian Manhunter's currently brutish form coming down on the nearest robotic ones.

The Manhunters shatter from the impact of Martian strength.

But for every one he destroys, three more come towards him.

... Only there's an atypical red-and-yellow 60s UFO sweeping through their midst.

"I saw Close Encounters of the Third Kind and it was nothing like this!"

The Manhunters aren't quite sure what to make of the giant flying saucer with a face, so they fall back on their default.

Blast it.

It's the American Way. Wait a second...

Eel morphs into a parachute as he takes fire, swooping down to envelop a detachment of Manhunters below him, "Come on guys, team huddle!"

A hand protrudes from the red-and-yellow duvet, pointing at each of the Manhunters respectively, "Okay, Mahoney, you go deep. I want O'Doyle and Frampton to hustle the flanks and Dreyfuss you'd better be ready to make that catch. Alright, hands in!"

J'Onn allows himself a small smirk at Eel's actions before fading out of sight, Only for Martian Vision to start firing from seemingly nowhere after he changes his position.

The Manhunters attempt to scorch Eel from the inside, so he furls himself into a taut ball, crumpling the exoskeletons of his adversaries.

Then, he glides past J'onn in the form of the red baron. Nuts, that meant it was his JLA buzzer that had gone off, not the federal one. Looks like he wasn't getting paid for this.

"Hey, Greeny! These guys with you? I don't think I approve of the company you keep."

Meanwhile, Superman's scattering the Manhunters like tenpins. They may be iron and supertough.

But this is Superman. His adopted homeworld.

No manhunter escapes the Superman.

The Manhunters aren't on the ground yet and Flash? Well, he can't fly.

What he can do, though, is just what he IS doing. Getting the civilians out of the line of immediate fire. And being ready for when or if they do make it down.

You know it's bad when they have to start calling in second-stringers like him, but Cliff Steele was more than ready to do his job. For all his pretense of being retired... well, sometimes, it was hard to say no.

Besides, robots like this gave robots like him a bad name. He cracked his metal knuckles in anticipation. "This is gonna be one heck of a fight."

The Guardian is already doing what he does best -- protecting the civilians of Metropolis. His shield helps deflect the blasts of the incoming Manhunters while he escorts civilians out of harm's way.

Batgirl may not be enough of a heavy-hitter to go toe-to-toe with any Manhunters, but she's nimble enough to dodge their fire and knock some civilians out of harm's way.

Virgil had gotten to Metropolis as soon as he was able, soaring into the sky on his disk, firing blasts of electricity at the manhunters.

"Alright, you guys? Made of metal. Me? Electromagnetic powerhouse. Are you absolutely sure, you wanna do this?"
