...and the thunder rolls.

"The thunder rolls and the lightnin' strikes.
Another love grows cold on a sleepless night.
As the storm blows on, out of control.
Deep in her heart, the thunder rolls."

Her parents were out of town, being interviewed by that guy from "FBI Top Ten" about Billy's disappearance.  It had been nearly a year since Billy Batson...and Captain Marvel...disappeared.

Superman had explained to her family that something happened in a battle with Mordru, Eclipso and Johnny Sorrow that caused Billy to disappear.  Around that time, all of the abilities of the Marvel Family had disappeared as well...including Mary's...while she was flying.   She had miraculously survived, but was bedridden.

Until two months ago.  When Black Adam was shown, alive and well, and fully empowered, back in Kahndaq.  It was about then that Mary was allowed to go home.  But she carried with her a hobble of her own.  Not as pronounced as Freddy's, but still there.

Then the final straw came five days ago when an attempt to call Freddy led to a disconnected number.  It had broken her spirit, just as her body was broken.

When she had the powers, she wasn't into them nearly as much as Billy.  But now that they were gone...

She felt empty.  And alone.

Like thunder without lightning.  Signifying nothing.

And then, her frustration, her depression, started to turn into rage.  Adam.  He HAD to know something...he had the power now, did he not?  And what did that mean?  Did he kill Billy?  Did he somehow kill the Wizard, taking all the power as his own?

He had to have.   How else would he have the power?  He wasn't actually CHOSEN to be Shazam's agent?  Not with his history.  Not with his streak.  What was wrong with Freddy?  What was wrong with HER?  She had as much right to the power of Shazam as the next.

And she would take it from him.  If she only knew how.
