Meanwhile, at the JSA Brownstone (10 minutes ago) nation_jsa August 13 2008, 14:23:25 UTC
Ma had just set down the teatray on a nearby table in the JSA meeting room. Several sidetables were in various corners of the room, with the storied round meeting table beginning to fill in with the available members. At the moment, there were only a couple in the room.

She looks at the TV screen in the corner. "I guess I shouldn't be so surprised anymore at the depravity of some people." She says sadly, out loud, to whoever will listen.

Mr. Terrific has nothing to say for the moment. He sits at the main table, eyes intently fixed on the screen as Black Lightning's assault is discussed.

Jay's eyes narrow, but he keeps silent. He keeps his thoughts to himself.

Power Girl comes in, pours herself some of Ma's coffee, and watches soberly.

Maxine is there, her cereal turning into mush while her face is almost pressed to the screen.

"Wow, poor Veep."

Hey, Peeg." Rick greets as she walks in. He's not any more happy than anyone else but he won't be rude about it. "Not a good thing to wake up to. 'Least Big Blue is on the scene."

"As is Batman," Mr. Terrific mutters, "looks like Superman has got him to sober up some."

A look of keep the coffee coming crosses his face.

Jack comes in yawning, but fairly alert. He's been up for an hour already to see Teddy off to camp for the day.

He tucks the star rod under his arm to get some of Ma's fresh OJ. "Nothing like hardball politics in Washington, huh?"

"Vice President Peirce got attacked." She's almost slow in delivering that news. "Possibly a meta."

"Worse." She sips her coffee. "That's really, really not supposed to happen to Jeff."

The alarm system sounds off, signaling an intruder in the Brownstone.

Two seconds later, they hear a massive crash. A second after that, they see Dr. Mid-Nite flying past the entryway.

Rick's the first to see it and instinctively pushes the button on his right gauntlet to get his dose of Miraclo pumping. "What the hell..."

She's already doing the "rolling up sleeves," motion on her way to the door. "Someone has a deathwish this morning -"

Terrific is hot on their heels, circled by a protective perimeter created by his T-spheres.

Whoever's thinking about raiding JSA Brownstone, they've got to be bringing a fight with them.

And indeed he is. In fact, he's already engaged with the Flash, who was gone from the briefing room and here before Rick moved an inch. "It's this simple. Bring me Danette Riley. You served your country well in WW2, unline those Justice League putzes. I have no desire to bring hell onto you."

He slams his hand against a nearby wall where he thought he saw a blur and ripped through it. Something that shouldn't be THAT easy to do. "Tonight, at least."

"I'm afraid it's simpler than that," Jay replies, moving here and there and everywhere, drawing his fire.

"It's as simple as, 'no.'"
