"Since We Survived the Zombie Apocolypse..."

Tommy has had a long ass day today. With the running around, making sure the other teams are okay (except for the Titans; Such a damn shame) and helping with the reconstruction in both the Brownstone (hey, he lived there now) and Brooklyn (he's sure as hell not going to let where he grew up be wrecked) he'd hadn't given a lot of thought of what he ( Read more... )

Katz Deli and home! nottomcat September 10 2011, 03:52:44 UTC
With the movie mostly ignored in favor of his new girlfriend (damn did he love the sound of that) Tommy was willing to head back, although he still wanted to hit Katz Deli. They'd probably be able to get there and finish eating before dark.

"So, Maxine, have you ever been to Katz Deli?"

Maxine had spent more time getting cozy with Tommy than watching the movie, she didn't regret it in the least. As far as she was concerned the night was perfect.

After the movie Tommy brought up the deli. Max shook her head. "No, but it sounds really good."

"Cool. It's a good place to eat, it's on the way back to the Brownstone, and I feeling a little nostalgic."

Tommy led the way, his hand wrapped tightly around hers.

"Maybe.. maybe we can make some new memories to go with the old ones."

Maxine held his hand tightly, looking around to take in the sights.

"Sounds like a damn good plan", Tommy said as he led them back towards the where the small transfer center was. With his familiarity with the system he guides himself and Maxine through the onrush of early job leavers and manages to get the two of them onto the train.

"Whew! Haven't had to rush for a train for a while. You okay, Maxine?"

She was dragged after him more or less, through the crowd. Maxine pulled her arm and bag in tight to herself and let Tommy take the lead. He knew where he was going and had the confidence and ease of someone who had grow up navigating this sort of traffic. She kept up well enough but felt a bit intimidated by the close quarters with others.

Large groups of people always tended to make her nervous, too many chances for things to go wrong if her powers acted up. Tommy tugged them on to a train and she was finally able to breath a bit easier, she nodded to his question. "Yeah. Fine.'

Tommy motioned to one of the nearby seats, taking his right next to it. Since this was a bus heading back into the main part of the city the number of people inside the train was a light.

"Katz is not to far up from here. We go over that same bridge we did with the bus and get off on the second stop. Great food, too. It's been years since I technically ate kosher, but when I did Mom took us there once a week for pastrami and roast beef sandwiches."

"So we'll see the bridge again." She seemed happy about that. But Tommy continued on and she braved a chance to ask him something she hadn't brought up before.

"You make references to things, I mean I know they are Jewish things. Oh God that's not insulting to say that way is it? I mean they are things and they are Jewish, not that they are 'Jewish things' like it's a bad thing. I just meant that I noticed them and we've never really talked about it before so I wasn't really sure if you were Jewish or if you weren't or something."

"Yeah, I'm Jewish. Or I was. Don't really know how it works myself, but I haven't been to Temple in years, when Mom first got sick. Too busy trying to help her out," Tommy says as he grips her hand again. Having her say yes was something really nice that helps him out, but it is still kind of raw, even after so many months.

"I'm not. Jewish I mean." She looked a little nervous. "Is that ok?"

"What? You aren't? Oh woe is me! But I think I know how to make up for it!" Tommy says with as much hamminess as he could muster before going in for another kiss.

He had her worried for a second, but then he leaned in and kissed her and suddenly she forgot to be worried. She leaned back into the kiss and smiled when it ended, against there was just that hint of flowers and warmth that he might be discovering was part of Maxine's particular quirks.

"I can come up with others things we don't have in common if we handle them all the same way!"

Trains in New York usually don't smell like flowers and warmth. It's usually metal with hints of BO, damp clothes, and (if very unluckily) urine or puke. If it was a quirk of her powers he'd have to make sure he did that often to see what other smells she conjured up.

"Well, that sounds excellent, but lets wait for a slightly less public place, and-"

Tommy looks out the window. Apparently the little discussion they had had distracted them form them being on the bridge. They were only a stop away from Katz.

"Whoa. That went quick. Must be the excellent company"

Maxine was a special girl, more so than even she knew. But it was the little things about her that made her truly unique.

"So we'll be there soon. Great! I'm starving."

"Good. Glad you brought your appetite. Katz is pretty damn good," Tommy said as he made his way to the door, her hand in his. With the traffic light (for New York) and coming in *just* before the dinner rush, they managed to get a table with relative ease.

"So, what sounds good to ya, Max?"

"Gosh, it all sounds really good. Ummmm I don't know. What do you suggest?" There were so many choices, some she knew some she didn't but she had faith in Tommy's suggestions.
