[Blackest Night] A conglomerate of not-so-nice people...

Mar 07, 2011 02:16

After what had happened with Ivy, Talon had developed a new plan altogether. He would assemble the worst of the worst to help. He had understood that he couldn't rely on the so-called heroes to make sure things were okay. So he had Raven take him, after losing Ivy, to this world's STARLabs. A place where he could "borrow" a Motherbox. After that, ( Read more... )

Aubrey is restless. No matter how high she stokes the fire, how hot she drinks her coffee, how long she stands on the concrete porch and lets her body burn blindingly bright, there's still a chill in the air that crawls down into her bones and takes root there. She can't seem to warm up, to fully shake it off.

She lights another cigarette, peering out the window into the gathering storm. The thunderous knock on her door before she's even done inhaling doesn't surprise her so much as reinforce her unease.

She goes into the foyer and cracks the front door open partway, peering through the gap allowed by the chain.

"Yes?"

He had arrived only a moment sooner, and been about to knock on the door, when the door had opened, and an eye had peered through. Having been raised by Owlman, doors had never opened for him. In fact, they had always slammed shut if he was within a block. This was new.

"Uh..." He said, slightly stunned. Inertia had popped in front of him, but that was how speedsters worked. He only remembered barely hitting the door.

"I'm Talon. I... need to talk to you." God, talking to the guys on his list had not nearly been this hard.

Aubrey shut the door to unlatch the chain, then opened it just enough to make space for herself to lean in the frame. She took a drag off her cigarette.

"Okay, I'm listening."

Well, crap for Talon. This girl was hot. Figuratively AND literally. To a teenage boy, this was like Superman trying to talk reasonably to kryptonite.
Talon panicked and just reached into his utility belt to reveal his commm unit, clicking it to start displaying the JLA messages, as well as the cop comms. Talon tried to compose himself while they played, but ultimately, wound up going to car salesman sleaze.

"Well, babe, that's the problem I'm playing for you." He said, trying to be charming while his voice slightly squeaked. "We're all gonna die if we don't help the self-appointed 'good guys'."

Scorch reached out and took the comm from him, tweaking
"Good guys might be self appointment but they're still pretty damn good, you have to admit." Aubrey pointed out, unable to help a slight smirk at Talon's obvious distraction.

"I take it you're here because you have a plan about what to do?"

"Well, I'm not a good guy." He said obviously, trying not to stare. "I want to be, but I keep getting reminded I ain't there yet." He was still staring, though he would declare he wasn't.

"Fact is, I ain't got a plan, persay. I just... I got a plan to get a plan. I recruited a smart guy or two, from the not-so-nice side. The kind of guys the capes here wouldn't think to ask for help. And it'll be up to us to not just save the capes, but to save everyone. Or, at the very least, provide a sudden calvalry at the right moment." He seemed more confident and less distracted as he focused on the plan and less on her... well, female qualities.

"We can at least help save the world. You in?"

She tapped at the video feeds on the communicator a moment more, glancing between the unit and Talon a minute more before handing it back.

"Who else is coming along exactly? I like the destination but I'm not sure about the company just yet."

Kid had stones to try to spearhead something like this but his wandering eyes didn't fill her with confidence in his leadership.

Still, the whole thing sounded a sight better than pacing around her house being anxious as the storm rolled in.

"As far as the company goes, you might not like them. Hell, I ain't sure I like 'em, and I've spent my entire life on the fun side of the law." He shrugs, as if there was no making up for who people were. "But the world's begging for help, and, like the expression says, beggars can't be choosers." He held his hands up in mock surrender. after a moment, though, he adjusted his half-burned domino mask and locked eyes with hers, his blue eye almost glowing with excitement and anticipation, though the gleam of intelligence, or at least cunning, was also present. He smiled reassuringly.

"Besides, who cares about the past or future for these guys, me, or you? If there was ever a time to focus on the damned present, hot stuff, it's now."

Aubrey took a deep breath and let it out in a rush. Something about that enthusiasm of his was a little infectious.

"Okay fine, I'm in, but if the company takes a turn for the crazy I'll be out again in short order. Fair enough?"

"Fair enough, though I'd like the opportunity to debate when it's taken that turn. All things considered." He said with a smile. He produced his pilfered motherbox and dialed up a boom tube.

"This'll take you to my place to wait while I finish getting all hands on deck. Inertia and the Riddler are there. If they get too riled, feel free to burn 'em a little. I'll be there as soon as I can."

"Oh you really shouldn't give a girl like me that kind of carte blanche." she drawled with a bit of a laugh, but snatched her coat out of the closet and stepped out the front door anyway. After locking up she approached the swirling portal, calling back - "Don't be too long." - before stepping through.
