Deadman looks around at the shapes in the darkness. "Okay, I'll make this quick. This guy... he's not Death. He's an old foe of the Green Lanterns; they call him Nekron. But he wants to be Death... so he can destroy all life. All at once. And he can do it. All these Black Lanterns aren't really the dead -- they're just pieces of Nekron, wearing the dead with all their memories used as weapons."
He looks at Jericho seriously. "There are going to be a bunch of problems all over tonight. But there are three big things to watch out for. Nekron's trying to get the Spectre to be his, and that would be bad news if he succeeds. But I'm not even sure where to start with that; the Spectre doesn't exactly check in with me all that often. As bad as that is, that's bottom priority.
"Next, someone needs to stop the reanimated Trigon. He's going to open portals all through Hypertime, so Nekron's attacks will ripple throughout all time and space... so when he wins, no one will have ever lived.
"And then the rest need to get where Nekron's going to raise his biggest army and in one moment destroy all life in the universe. A place of meaningless death on a massive scale. With that, he's going to draw forth the essence of all life in the universe... and destroy it. I don't know where that's going to be. But you need to get the heroes organized, kid... and get them to stop this."
He looks around once more at the darkness. "Look, I know that's a ton to take in... but I don't have time to go over it again."

Joey is reeling a little, but fear sharpens his focus and he nods, running over it all in his head again, trying to embed the details.
"I think that I can remember it all, I will do my best."
The dark around them looks empty but it doesn't FEEL empty, there is a low living hum that Joey can't help but pick up on. It rumbles in his rib cage like the echo of a revving engine and chills him all down his spine.

Joey doesn't hesitate, there isn't time. He closes his eyes and concentrates on releasing his hold on this place. He has to push a little, struggling for a moment to fully detach himself...
But with just enough force he pulls free, comes crashing out the other side of Grant's rotting body, shuddering with cold as he falls to his knees.

"I will try to be fast."

The shadows come alive towards them both. "Get out of here, kid! I'm already dead -- I can handle this! You need to go now!"
