Blackest Night: Watchtower Meeting

Feb 06, 2011 22:20

Martian Manhunter is familiar with the many workings of the Justice League Watchtower. Even with the dimmed lights to save power, he was comfortable walking through the halls. But the eeriness of the empty halls does not escape him, especially considering just what had happened to him just an hour previous. The emptiness worries J'onn.

There should ( Read more... )

"We discard names as we discard anything associated with individualism," the stranger explains. "But you may call me Indigo-1. I am the chosen leader of the Indigo Tribe. As for the beginning...

"In the beginning, the universe belonged to the Darkness.

"...and then there was light. For seven hundred years, the universe was nothing but blinding white light. Then the darkness fought back and the white light was splintered.

"Every sentient being born from the light now contributes to the emotional spectrum. Our state of being adds to its respective light. And it can be collected and condensed into power.

"Today, the red rage all life feels is harness by Atrocitus and his pack of Red Lanterns.

"The orange light of avarice has been claimed, along with the lives, identities, and service of the Orange Lanterns, by the gluttonous Larfleeze.

"The blinding yellow terror is wielded by the renegade Green Lantern Sinestro and his self-named Corps.

"The balance of the spectrum and the essential light to destroying the Black Lanterns shines in the hands of the Green Lantern Corps.

"The glow of blue hope is kept alive by the undying faith of Ganthet and Sayd's Blue Lantern Corps.

"And the violet throes of love empower the Star Sapphires, who attempt to convert all to their way of being.

"My tribe maintains the indigo light of compassion, which sadly remains elusive to most beings.

"Today, the darkness fights back again. It's begun an assault on the Corps. The homeworld of each is under attack from the Black Lanterns."

She pauses. "Their reasons for attacking Earth are unknown to our tribe. Perhaps it is because the heroes of this world have always halted threats against life in this universe."

Repairing his costume with a thought, Terry turns to listen to Indigo-1 as well. He quirks a brow at the mention converting others and gives Carol a questioning look. There's still a lot he doesn't know about being a Star Sapphire.

"Zombies are attacking all the different colored lanterns and here," he summarizes for the younger Flash. "And this is bad," he adds.

"Also, there are seven corps, representing the seven colors of the visible spectrum. They coincide with a strong, primordial emotion."

J'onn looks at Hal.

"Or, in the case of the green, the control of those emotions through willpower."

"That... that doesn't make any sense. Emotions and energy are too entirely different things."

Hal waves his hand at Ray, not taking his attention off the stranger.

"Not now, Ray. So what's next?"

"Now, you must join us while we seek out the other leaders of the Corps. Only together can we defeat the darkness. Others here must continue the fight against the Black Lanterns until we return."

"What of Earth? If what you say is true, we would need a Green Lantern and a representative of another corp."

Terry wasn't all that happy about the idea of being the only Star Sapphire on Earth but he stepped forward anyway. "I'm still new but I've got a Violet Power Ring and there are three more Green Lanterns I know about that call Earth home," he offered, feeling a bit odd speaking up in front of all these important super heroes.

"Great odds for the planet Earth. I thought we were done playing alamo for the ringslingers." He runs a finger over his chin as he rattles off a mental roll-call at superspeed. "So, we need to start shedding a little more light? That's four Lanterns including Purple Rain here, maybe more if the rainbow yodas of the universe have already started recruiting. We've got Kimiyo on call, and the Ray has to be out there somewhere. There's the crowd in Opal, and spooky set should be able to cook something up. Give a speedster enough of a run-up and pretty much all you are is light."

The greatest man he has ever known just came back for the dead. It's a day for miracles.

"Yeah," he says finally. "Yeah, I reckon we can still bloody a few noses."

"Regardless, Earth will have to do without Hal Jordan and Carol Ferris," Indigo-1 explains. "Time is short, and we must go."

She moves to Carol and Hal, and a bubble of indigo energy begins to rise around them.

"Count me in Hal," he said, stepping up to the edge of the indigo bubble. "I think you could use a little support, if today's earlier events are any indication."

He turns to Wally, warmly.

"It looks like things are pretty well handled down here for now."

He turns back to Hal.

"Besides, if you discover something more about the cause of all this, I can play Paul Revere and pass the info to the rest of the JLA."

"We learned from the best," he replies, slowing the usual speed-fidgeting so he can flash his uncle a smile, "Don't worry, the fort's held while you guys go muster the Rohirrim. Just don't leave it so late this time."

And then the Indigo Lantern is gone, taking Barry, Hal, and Carol with him.
