Kate unconsciously smooths down her dress, looking around at all the people dressed in their finest silks. She tells herself she's here to support a good cause.
'It's only a few hours, I can do this.' She tries to convince herself.
As she's reaching for a glass of champagne, she feels as if someone's watching her, she turns around and squints through the crowd, but there are too many people, and too many people who want to speak to her, she swallows her frustration and plasters a fake smile.
Kathy gapes for a moment, covering her mouth with one elegantly gloved hand, then leans forward into the handshake.
"Oh my god," she smiles. "It's a good thing we're not wearing the same designer, too, or else I think the rules state we'd have to face each other in some sort of fashionista cage match or something." She grins at Kate, wearing her usual brainless spoiled debutante mask, but with a bit of friendly warmth. "So, I don't believe I've seen you at any of these little soirees before. New in town?"
