The year 2210:

Vandal Savage steps over the body of Lifeforce as he takes hold of the machine. The healer had been the last line of defense, and he, like the others, had fallen. The Justice League never expected him; the element of surprise left them devastated.

And now he has the Time Master's time machine. He fingers it idly. Even with the damage he dealt to the League here today, he expects most of them would live, particularly once Lifeforce finishes recovering and can go about healing them. Not that it really matters. The damage he will deal to the League will go far deeper than simply damaging flesh.

An explosion shakes the base. As Savage expected, the Living Matrix found an alternative way into the pocket Hypertime shard of the Watchtower. But not soon enough.

He doesn't have time to finesse the controls. He needs to get out of this time, and quickly. In whatever time he ends up in, he can recruit a number of assistants... and then he can destroy the League completely.

Best to recruit those who know the League founders well. He'll need those from early in the League's history -- back when many of the originals were still alive. Ah, yes. He knows the perfect time from which to recruit his allies.

The wall blasts open, and the Living Matrix floats towards him, blue electricity crackling over his white body, flames lashing from the top of his head, only his face seeming somewhat human.

"Savage!" he commands. "This ends now!"

"Hardly," he corrects. "This ends 220 years ago."

And with a flash... Vandal Savage is gone from time itself.
