Sometimes Goodbye Is a Second Chance

John Stewart hung up the phone, hoping he didn't sound as grim as he thought he sounded. This idea he had in mind was going to consume all of his time once he got to Oa, and he still hadn't spoken to Donna and Koriand'r yet. He needed to be on his A-game, but he couldn't leave Earth for any extended period without talking to Diana first. After all, he was about to ask her sister to come with him to provide back-up; that deserved some honesty.
When she arrives at his door, she will find it unlocked, and walk into his spacious apartment to scent of chickpea curry and rice. Dating Diana hasn't cured him of his carnivorous ways completely, but he does have a new-found liking for several vegetarian dishes, especially the one he's cooking now.
He wears a white apron over his black long-sleeve shirt, jeans and boots, and he smiles as she comes in. He's stirring the food and making sure he doesn't spill any, but tries to look less like his normally severe self, his green eyes softening a bit at the sight of her.
"I hope I didn't go too far with dinner.I was running a little late and decided to cook at the last minute. Have a seat, and don't mind the covers on the couches. Movers are taking everything to storage tomorrow.
How have you been?" he asks, grabbing a couple of bowls from the cabinet.
