Six hours of hell and a commute that pushed his last button later, he made his way through the door, toed off his shoes, and took a deep breath. The air smelled of pizza, the TV was on in the living room, and he heard the boys laughing at something. Heather emerged from the kitchen and grinned and he swore she already looked better.
"You look like hell, Leroy." She walked over and put her hands on his chest and for a moment, everything was perfect. "You okay?"
"I have to make a call before the day's over." He leaned forward to kiss her. "I'll be right back down. Pizza was a perfect choice."
"The comfort food for boys of every age." She touched his nose. "Go finish up. We'll be here." His eyes drifted to the mantle; of the few personal things he's unpacked, the picture of him and Heather taken in Hawaii now graces the room and he takes a calming breath. Not only does he have those memories, he has her now.
With a sigh, he moved up the stairs and collapsed onto the bed in their room. It still wasn't made and the mess felt comfortable. He reached for the land line and picked it up, dialing a familiar number. Jenny needed to know what he'd found.
The Assistant Director is aiming to make Jenny look bad, possibly blow an operation, and quite frankly put a bunch of agents in danger to do it. They don't need to go in the way they have been ordered to. He doesn't like it and he knows to trust his gut. He just hopes Jenny has the patience for this conversation tonight.
