Another morning, another conversation. Baby steps. Literally.

She's learned that if she wants to have a conversation with her sister, she has to actually show up at the door. It's a bit frustrating, but it is what it is. Her sister is depressed and she can't expect Jenny to come over and sit down with them at the kitchen table. It bugs her, but she can respect it. So, armed with a notebook full of cures for ( Read more... )

When Jen answers the door, she's a bit surprised to see her sister standing there. She had actually just been thinking about calling Heather. Jenny's still doing the stretchy knit pants and a t-shirt, but at least she has a valid excuse now. And she looks better than she did before. "Hi," she says when her brain catches up with her.

Heather just gives her a look - it's a big sisterly one despite her being younger. But she's been here and she's been scared. James was not an easy pregnancy and it was made worse by the fact that she hadn't let herself contact Jethro to figure out his family history. The book she has is actually all about her pregnancy with James - tracking morning sickness and patterns with his health. "Your eyes are clearer," she says by way of greeting. "How are you doing?" She doesn't make a move to enter until Jenny says she can. But she isn't as nervous as last time either.

"Better," she answers as she moves out of the doorway. Better is relative, of course. "It's good you picked today instead of some day this weekend," she says. She's not really sure why she said it because it opens her up for questions, but Heather probably already knows.

Heather steps inside. "Emotional? Sick? All of the above?" She's asking as a worried sister. Jenny isn't good at this stuff. Not yet. She will be. Eventually.

She closes the door and shakes her head. "Actually, I had a cerclage put in Thursday morning. They kept me overnight and I was a zombie for most of the weekend."

Heather's eyes widen a bit but there's a smile in them. It's clear she's pleased about this development. "Good," she says. "Well, not the zombie part. They had to put you under right?"

"Completely knocked me out. I'm still not sure why they didn't just do an epidural or a local, but they know better than I do and I'm no worse for the wear." Jen smiles a little herself; his was the good part of the weekend--and maybe the week. She turns partway toward the kitchen, "Coffee? Lunch?"

"I'll definitely take coffee. Lunch at some point." She smiles a bit at her sister's smile. It's good to see.

"Okay," she says, leading the way into the kitchen. She starts the coffee before searching for some kind of snack. She hasn't eaten yet today, but she doesn't want to eat now and make Heather wait; she'd rather they have lunch together. There are some corn muffins leftover from early that morning and Jen grabs a couple along with two mugs and brings it all to the table.

Heather sets the stuff she brought aside and focuses on the coffee. "Really? You're feeling okay?"

Jen nods. "Better than I was," she says before taking a bite of a muffin, "I'm not as sick as I had been."

Heather gives her a bit of a smile. "It does fade." She picks at a muffin a bit herself. Not nervously - mostly because Jenny is eating too. "Hopefully it stays away." She wants to bring up James because Daniel was such an easy pregnancy. She might be able to help, if Jenny wants it. "Have you regained an appetite?"

"A little, but it's still not great. At least most of what I do eat stays down. It'll get better." The coffee is done, so Jen gets up. She puts the cream and the sugar on the table before bringing the coffee pot over. She takes her seat again and fills her mug.

Heather grins a bit and then takes the pot to pour her own cup. Living with Leroy these past months has set her back to drinking coffee black, but she's glad for the option of cream and sugar. When she's done she gets up to put it back and then reclaims her seat. "With Daniel, I went from throwing up everything to craving peaches."

She takes her time fixing her coffee, listening to her sister talk. She remembers exactly how it went with Lucie, but she doesn't want to talk about it. "I seem to be somewhere in between."

Heather nods. She can see the distance that is still part of Jenny's mindset and leaves it be. Pushing isn't their style, especially not right now. "Well, that's a good thing then."
