We wake up at Tom's Cove Campground and get ready to roll out (Transformers reference there). John nearly takes off one of the boards on a fence as he misjudged his paniers. Sunday is so incredibly hot! We head out hoping the rush of air will cool things a bit. Did it help? Ummmmm… no!
We head back down the eastern shore and the entire time the air is just hot, hot, hot. Then when there is a breeze or a gust of wind, oh, it is even hotter! Sorta felt like God had a hair dryer that was just lazing about blowing in random directions occasionally blasting us with uncomfortable heat.
We stopped at an antique shop. That was fantastic because they had AC! We were there for at least an hour, maybe more. Someone bought an antique typewriter (was that Kristen, Meena or Karen?), John bought a fishing pole and Kevin was repulsed by the crappy Harley Davidson merch they had for sale there.
We left and headed back for VA Beach. The rest of the ride didn't seem as oppressive. We got back but as John was leading, he began to weave in and out of traffic. Well, being several bikes and a van, that wasn't really a good idea since we can't all keep up. Kevin and I traded knowing and slightly irritated (okay, Kevin's was more irritated) glances but we made it back to John and Kristen's mostly as a group.
I loved Kevin's speech when we got back. He took his helmet off, raised his hand and announced "I have something to say!" Kevin putting the boot down! Love it! Plus, what he had to say totally made sense.
John and I went to get some food stuffs. He wanted to take the Thruxton so that meant no storage. Meena was nice enough to lend me her Buddy. I felt sorta bad as the first few bumps I could hear the shocks squeaking in unexpected stress. I'm sure I out-weigh Meena by 60+ pounds so I figured it just wasn't used to the workout. We got a delish dinner of salmon, drinks and doggies.
Later after food and (too much?) wine, there were some fantastic jokes flying around and references to Pino Noir that will be a permanent part of my thought process when tasting wine. There was laundry, laughter, video, Pokey bouncing and more video. All was fun but we were pooped and had to get up and head to Ocracoke in the morning. Fun times and more fun to come!
