So true. I especially remember when Barbara's origin was retold for "Secret Origins". She was so driven and so determined. That set her up *so* well... and then "Killing Joke" happened. *sighs*
This all seems so very Babs to me -- the anger instead of self-pity, the need to act strong for her father because she doesn't want to add to his pile of worries. And pushing Dick away because the last thing she wants is his sorrow and sadness. It just drives home to me how *much* Babs is like Bruce in the walls she puts up around herself. And this part:
She won’t give Joker the satisfaction, even though he’s locked up in Arkham and couldn’t possibly know.

That's very Babs, I think, the way she feels and the way she acts and the way those don't have much to do with each other sometimes. I liked the ending very much, too, "the ghost of a batarang" drove the point home for me very well.
