Just heard that John Hurt has passed away. I hadn't realized how important his portrayal of the Doctor was to me until just now. He was absolutely brilliant in that role.
I feel I need to apologize to the rest of the world on behalf of my country. The idea of him being "populist" is wrong, though -- he did NOT win the majority vote here, and the majority of us are doing everything we can to resist. I was part of the Women's March, and so were a ridiculous number of other people I know, and none of us are regulars at political protest marches. I'm calling my Congressional representatives, and so are others I know, and again, that's not something we've done before. And I was proud to see the protests today at our airports.
Oh, don't worry, I know people like you didn't vote him in. I've enough American friends across LJ, Twitter, and Tumblr to know that it was a rigged election, and a tiny majority of white people (including, infuriatingly, white women) who landed us with the Dumpster.
And good for you for marching. I can't - knee and all - so I'm doing my bit via social media and trying to influence British politics via things like 38 degrees.
(I've even tweeted at the likes of DumpsterDonald and Richard Spence and told them precisely what I think of some of their more insane comments. I don't care if they don't take any notice, I am NOT gonna sit here and say nothing.)
Well, f*ck you 2017.
He's been brilliant as the War Doctor for Big Finish.
