and it won’t work but

Junsu watches as Jaejoong walks away, still smiling that smile he fell in love with, humming that tune they met to. Jaejoong's a rebel heart, going everywhere and nowhere, and Junsu should have known he'd never have this happy ending. Jaejoong did. For all the fantasies about that apartment they never bought, that ring Jaejoong never bought him for their first anniversary, that small ceremony between friends they never had, Junsu's still in love but Jaejoong's fading in the distance. Junsu would never be able to keep up, no matter how hard he tried. Jaejoong keeps running and running and Junsu, he'll turn around and find someone worth it all.

my god, we tried

Junsu runs a finger down the center of Jaejoong's chest, still damp from their lovemaking just seconds earlier. "Jaejoong, do you believe in love at all?" he asks softly, not daring to look Jaejoong in the eyes. He's known for a while Jaejoong will leave, he's just been denying it. His finger stops over Jaejoong's heart, feels it beat thumpthump beneath the skin and bone and pretends this is love.

Jaejoong catches his finger and says, "Do you remember what I told you when we met, Junsu? Did you hear me at all?"

somewhere in the middle

Jaejoong's everything Junsu is not. He's got the dirtiest mouth Junsu's ever heard and he speaks his mind. Junsu's not sure if he means to or not, but he likes Jaejoong's bluntness either way. He could be the best friend Junsu never had, because he's closer than Junsu's ever let anyone ever. Jaejoong has the power to hurt Junsu a thousand times over and he knows it, Junsu can see it in his dark, wild eyes, the depths not completely visible through flecks of blue. Jaejoong's always hiding, a complete contradiction of himself, and Junsu knows this is why he's so enthralled. They're alike in the smallest ways where they are not different and Junsu wants to change him, make him stay. Make it work.

have a big love affair and

Junsu doesn't do this normally, but he's had too much to drink and Jaejoong's a born seducer, smiles and laughter and kisses that make Junsu forget everything. He's caught up until they hit the bed together and Jaejoong's draped over him with skin too hot and that lazy smile stretching his lips. "You really want this? I might break your heart," he says, low and sure as the wind blows. Junsu has no idea if he does or not, but he pulls Jaejoong down anyway, because this is like nothing he's ever had and maybe it'll be worth it.

hey, you and i are going to

Changmin brings his new co-worker out for their weekly night on the town. His new co-worker, with smoldering eyes and a cool smile and hair that's too bright to be natural. His name's Jaejoong, and Junsu's breathing speeds up a little when Jaejoong takes the karaoke stage and sings a song that feels like every word is for him and him alone. Jaejoong says his name for the first time and Junsu stops breathing completely. Changmin laughs and slinks away like maybe he knows, and Jaejoong moves in close.

"Hey," he says, and Junsu can feel Jaejoong smile against his ear, "You and I are going to have a big love affair and it won’t work, but somewhere in the middle my god, we tried."
