Shindong likes to eat. That IS a given. But he doesn’t intend for it to run his life. Not like this.
Sure, he doesn’t deny the fact that he’s a big guy. But it isn’t always amusing when every time they have something to do that involves food (consuming food, talking about food, or anything even remotely related to the thought of food,) they’d turn to him and assume he’d jump right in for the heck of it.
He grabs a rice cake (almost forcefully) from the many bags of food on the table. He is about to take a huge bite from his snack, when he turns and sees him.
Changmin is sitting quietly in a corner of the stage, observing all his hyungs as they run around the set during the break. He should be enjoying with them, Shindong thinks, before making his way to his dongsaeng.
(He grabs another rice cake too, just in case.)

Being known for something is one thing. But being tied down to a liking that makes up barely half of who that person really is - that’s a different story.
What happens to the talent? What happens to the smile? What’s so wrong with ‘he’s so adorable’ that makes ‘he’s always hungry’ easier to remember?
Most days, Changmin doesn’t really mind. He does love food after all. But when it gets to the point where his fans start making up love affairs involving his indifference to relationships (which they assume is an irreversible fact,) his penchant for anything delicious, and his tongue - he thinks maybe it’s not so funny anymore.
He’s a human being. He loves to eat, yes, but he’s not about to make out with a banana anytime soon.
You okay? Changmin turns to find a piece of rice cake under his nose, and an inquiring Shindong attached to it. I’m fine, hyung, he answers, taking the snack and scooting over the steps to open up some space.
Both boys munch on their treats in a comfortable silence.
-
Where are you going so late? Changmin hears as he moves to leave the apartment. Out, he replies. I’ll be real quick hyung, don’t worry, he adds before finally walking out the door.
-
Hyung! Shindong turns at the sound of one of his dongsaengs’ voices. Bring us back some ice cream okay? Someone finished it all off.
He grins at the playful glares being thrown across the living room, before nodding on his way out.
I wonder where he’s been disappearing to lately.
-
For many nights it starts like this.
They sit in silence for a moment, but neither of them complain. Changmin and Shindong remain side by side - both sets of feet dangling on a plant box, and a bag of yummy treats sitting between them. Their eyes travel to different directions (the sky, the road beneath them, the building across the street, the very interesting little bugs crawling on the roof deck, their feet) - until their gazes land on each other, and they break into fits of giggles.
I’m not uncomfortable, Changmin starts. Me neither, Shindong adds. But it feels so weird.
They look at each other again, searching the other’s eyes for any sign of awkwardness - or God forbid, regret. But when they find that there’s none, a smile tugs on their lips, and they continue to enjoy the few minutes they have together.
(The ice cream doesn’t make it back to the Super Junior house.)
-
What did you just say? Junsu asks. You’ve got to be kidding me, Jaejoong adds, eyes nearly bulging out of their sockets. Are you really serious?
When Changmin continues to look steadily at his hyungs, casually working out a small nod, all the rice in Yoochun’s mouth shoots out across the table, and onto Yunho’s face.
I’ll call Eeteuk hyung, Yunho snickers, shaking off the remaining grains of rice from his shirt.
-
Shindong laughs into the receiver as he listens to Changmin’s animated account.
He’s been too lazy to get up. All the other members must be having breakfast by then, too. But he can’t be bothered - especially now that he has Changmin on the phone.
Yunho hyung’s already talking to Eeteuk hyung, the rest might know already, Changmin says, his voice laced with anxiousness. I know… it’s going to be fine. I’ll just talk to the-, Shindong stops at the sound of a loud thud from outside his bedroom door. What was that?
Shindong chuckles, I think someone fainted, deciding to call Changmin back later.
-
(Understanding goes both ways for them.
Changmin begins to know Shindong better, as Shindong starts to learn more of Changmin.
Love and laughter surround them both in the simplicity of their relationship. And they share kisses - along with sweet and savory treats, without any of it EVER overpowering the taste of each other’s lips.)
