Casting Coup: District 9 & An Education

May 01, 2010 02:00

These were some fun ones to do. Both cracked my Top 25, of course, with Carey Mulligan even getting a Hollmann Award nomination for Best Actress. District 9, of course, won Best Makeup at my awards....but wasn't even nominated at the Oscars? Villainy!

DISTRICT 9

Caleb as Wikus Van De Merwe
Because Caleb has played the eager-to-please guy before, and I love seeing him explore a darker side. Which he's also done to perfection.

Jason as Piet Smit
Because Jason has been the grumpy bureaucrat before, and though it may be typecasting, I go with what works.

Gaby as Tania Van De Merwe
Because her quiet beauty and expressive eyes would give us all we need for this woman's love, dedication, and deep hurt.

Kurtis as Koobus Venter
Because he would relish the ruthlessness.

Gabe as Obesanjo
Because he, too, would relish the ruthlessness.

Ben as Christopher Johnson
Because of the eyes. Ben has puppy dog eyes that demand sympathy.

AN EDUCATION

Paula as Jenny
Because she has a fresh-faced innocence, but she can also bring a great maturity to the role.

Becca as Miss Stubbs
Because she'd do a great British accent and can nail the intelligence and worry of a teacher.

Ben as Jack
Because he has a fatherly charm, and this was one of Ben's favorite performances of last year. You're welcome.

Meghan as Marjorie
Because no one would be a better mother than Meghan.

Caleb as David
Because he's classy, has a convincing smile and loves those suits. He could also play creepy.

Gabe as Danny
Because he's suave, yet has shifty eyes. Or could at least make them all shifty.

Ashley as Helen
Because she could do more than just play the dumb blonde, and I'm sure she would love that cigarette holder.

Allie as The Headmistress
Because Allie is Emma Thompson, period. And I know she loves playing school administrators.
