31 Favourite Monsters: Future Predator
If you recall the entry for number 23 (the Night Stalker), I implied that flightless predator bats from the future would reappear on this list. Well, they have, in the form of Primeval’s Future Predator. The predators are to Primeval what the Daleks are to Doctor Who, being the most notorious of the creatures on the show. They are also one of only three creatures to appear in all the seasons so far made. Descended from bats, they are extremely agile and intelligent creatures, tracking their prey via echolocation (shown from the predator’s point-of-view in a distinctive ‘predator-vision’ effect) and bringing it down with their speed and agility. While they first appear to be the descendants of bats via evolution, it is implied in series 3 that they were created by genetic engineering, and subsequently destroyed the human race, leading to the future world we see in series 3. Though the predators appear derivative of the Night Stalker, the execution of the concept is different enough to make them extremely distinctive from the Night Stalker.
