great summary

So out of morbid(and I mean morbid) curiosity, I went to the DC forums and found a great analogy of Batman on a thread describing Wonder Womans appeal to heterosexual men. Here's the Batman analogy:

At the other extreme, I think about how Batman might appeal to heterosexual men, and I think that part of his appeal may be that to do what he does, to become what he became, it often seems like he had to sacrifice a part of his own soul, that, with irrevocable finality, he cast himself into perpetual darkness, into perpetual friendless solitude. His perpetual distrustfulness is like a cross he bears, and the way he, through this distrustfulness, isolates himself from others makes him appear, from at least one kind of perspective, as a failed soul.

Now here's what this guy said about Wonder Woman:

There's the tendency to see Diana as an angelic being (though I'm not sure if that's necessarily a strictly heterosexual tendency), the way Steve Trevor would ask if Diana was an angel the first time he saw her (to which she responded that she didn’t know what an angel was, but she’d rather be a woman, and one wonders whether embodying the role of an angel doesn’t in fact allow you the normal human imperfections that contribute to you as a grounded individual).

I personally remember responding to how Perez drew her with facial expressions of open, radiant innocence, her face as a kind of open greeting to everyone, like nature itself confessing itself openly to human beings. There seems to be a kind of Earth-mother quality to Diana, like nature and the earth speak through her, silently telling us stories about itself and about our own origins within it. Diana was formed from the earth, she belongs to it, and there’s a sense with her that she came into being at the creation of the world. I think that touches on something deep in the heterosexual male.

I just thought that this was interesting stuff as I sat in on a panel that talked about gender within comics and it went into Wonder Woman's appeal to homosexual men. You can once in a while find some cool shit on forums. The rest of the time, get away fast....
