capsuling

well.  that was a super interesting endeavor, and i actually enjoyed it much more than i thought i would have!

Note, about 6 months ago i went Konmari on my clothes.  All my stuff was still living in Pepper's closet and a dresser in her room from before she was born.  I felt like it was time to give her all her own space, and get my stuff into our small bedroom.  so i did a mass overhaul then.

this is what i started with:

which i guess isn't terrible.

So i pulled it all out, and tried to organize it, sort of by base.  I have found i am drawn to both black and navy as a base, and i'm ok with that.  all the stuff i've read says pick one,  and I don't want to!  so there!  clearly i like color.  this is me.  this is me making a lessist capsule....

that's the donate pile there on the floor, on the left.

so this is a pretty dishonest picture of what i have left.  My dresses are on the right, and my shirts, pants, skirts, separates on the left.  You can see i have a thing for polka dots and stripes.  and i like color.  but really, there are only a few colors here!  as i said, both black and navy as a base, which i have no intention of changing.  Everything i kept fits me.  there are 2-3 pieces i love that are 1 size too small.  Nothing has stains, holes or any other imperfections of that nature.  it was interesting to see how little white i have.  is that a subconscious decision, or the result of being the mother of a preschooler??

I learned some really interesting things looking at my clothes this way.  i got rid of a few items i do really like because they only fit in to one outfit.  konmari would have allowed me to keep these things if i loved them.  seeing my clothes all laid out like this, and thinking about how they all can go together really shifted my thinking.  I got rid of a few pairs of perfectly fine shoes, because looking at my clothes, i will never wear them.   i have kept a few items that will have to earn their right to stay. sadly, these are mostly winter items, so they can stay until it starts to get cold again.  but if i wear them, and birds don't sing, straight into the bag they go.  most of my clothes i wear year round, so there's really no need for packing away seasonal items.

i'm a little sad that i don't see *too* much difference in the before and after...

all in, i got rid of about 50 items.  I say this is dishonest because i have almost all last week's clothes in the laundry.  I did bring in most of my tops, tho.  I think i mentioned before that i recently discovered LuLaRoe.  and if you know them, you've heard of the leggings.  I have, i think, 5 pairs of weirdo fun prints i love, and i wear them about 2x a week.  I have 4 jersey mini dresses that i wear with them.  they don't go with anything else in my wardrobe. they're a sub capsule, in the laundry, and not pictured here since i wasn't going to get rid of them anyhow.

i have also learned i have a problem with socks.  too many and i was only able to get rid of like 5 pairs.

There are 3 items in waiting for alterations.  I’m trying to work into a second wind now and do them tonight.

overall i got so much out of doing this!! even if i don't have a capsule, i feel like i understand my clothes SO much more now.  and i hope that i'll be more purposeful when shopping.  I have identified a few items that would fill in nicely, and i can keep my eye out for items like that when i shop. I’ve never thought of my clothes as a wardrobe before, how they all fit together, or don’t.  and it was just super eye opening.

Julie,  tag, you're it.  i want to see photos!!!
