Name: Alison Blaire
Codename: Dazzler
Age/DOB: 26 / September 14
Affiliations: Formerly: X-men, X-Terminators, Alpha Flight.
Currently: none.
Occupation: Rock Star
Physical Traits:
- 5'9" / 115lbs
- Jet black hair, usually in messy ponytails. Up in liberty spikes for shows.
- Blue eyes.
Powers: The Dazzler has the capacity to transmute sound energy into light energy, creating all manner of lasers; photonic explosions; hard light projections which, with time, she has developed into an ability to hover above the ground and fly as well as a proficiency with holography, with which she is able to create eerily realistic image projections whose actions she can manipulate; brilliant light displays of variant intensity and colour which, when brilliant enough, can overload an enemy's sensory cortex--in short, Dazzling them. Alison is also impervious both light and sound, able to absorb and output the two because of her mutation, Alison often retains a great deal of stored energy in her body to prevent her natural glow from giving away her status as a mutant. Ali can transmute all type of sound into light, but it is easiest for her to use music as a source of sonic ammunition, and she generally carries an mp3 player for combat situations.
Ali is a proficient and formidable physical combatant, having trained under Wolverine intensively for years. What she may lack in technical skill she makes up with in vehemence and ingenuity. She is agile and cunning, with a reckless aspect to her fighting style often putting herself at risk in order to conquer an opponent. She often supercharges her physical attacks with photonic energy, making her a dangerous and unpredictable combatant.
Personality: Ali is young at heart, beginning her career at the Xavier Institute as a prankster and practical joker. She is a dedicated and diverse musician and has played in numerous bands throughout her career, gaining some acclaim in the punk rock band, Dazzler. She is stubborn, however, and can be quick to flare up in a physical fight thought her somewhat laissez-fair attitude allows her to keep cool in most social conflicts.
A child of the media, Ali is known for referencing Pop Culture ad-nauseum whether in daily conversation or in combat situations. She is, however, surprisingly oblivious to other super and meta-human celebrities (notably: Captain America, Iron Man, and the Fantastic Four.)
Background/History: Born in upstate New York, Alison Blaire has a fairly normal childhood--the daughter of a judge--she was raise with the belief that she would grow up to join the professional working work in some way. Unfortunately, this was not her destiny. As a teenager, her powers manifested during a musical performance, and as a budding musician, she found it useful in auditions and shows, most people assuming that she was a prodigy lighting technician and nothing more.
Conflict with her father about her choice to drop out of high school and persue a career as a musician, particularly her punk rock choice of music and lifetyle, sent her out of her family home at a young age, seeking emancipation at the age of 17 and living poorly but comfortably in Manhattan. She continued to build her reputation as a musician and technician until she was approached by the X-men, thus blowing her cover and exposing her as a mutant. She attempted to continue her muscial career in pro-mutant establishments and bands, but found ultimately her ability to support herself and survive became impossible and she sough out the X-men and came to be a student at the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning.
XMH Summary: Alison did not settle easily into the Xavier School, her first several months spent in frequent turmoil, ever in conflict with the schools administration, it wasn't long befre she was expelled from the institute and spent several weeks in Manhattan, scraping to live and eat once again. He then boyfriend, Warren Worthington the Third, discovered her and brought her back to the mansion, where conditions for her reenrollment were negotiated. Part of these conditions be that she train one-on-one with Logan daily and to operate as a Teacers Assistant under Scott Summers' in the music department of the school.
After graduating from the program, Ali found herself without much purpose. She had mellowed significantly, her hotheaded attitude cooling after training with the X-Men. She found herself feeling restless, useless, and torn between her desire to contnue her musical career and her newfound heroic tendencies. Ever a beacon of guidance, Logan found a solution for her: Alpha Flight.
Canada's Premiere Superhero Team was, for the most part, happy to receive Alison as anti-mutant hate crimes were building at a rate unheard of for the peaceful nation. It was soon discovered that the Friends of Humanity activist group had sent satellites North as part of their ever present goal to expand their member base. Alison became an integral part of Alpha Flight during her months there, forming a close friendship with Jean-Paul Beaubiler (alias: Northstar)
Alison returned to the mansion in a blaze of glory during a sentinel attack that was coordinated with the first of many firestorm raids on Genosha. With the X-Men away, it was left to the students to defend their own, and Alison was there beside her friends to protect the place she couldn't deny was home. This ended her active service with Alpha Flight, though S.W.O.R.D. made it clear she was always welcome on the team.
After her return, Alison took over the music program at the school from Scott, and threw herself once more into training. She had returned from Canada with a new offensive attack: Super Nova, which was revealed to some of her teammates and friends when sentinels attacked a small coffee shop in Salem Center during an open mic night she and some other students from Xavier's had performed at.
Shortly after her return she also began a romantic relationship with Rogue. She was last seen at XMH comforting her best friend, Julian Keller, upon hearing the news of his brother's fatal illness.
Five Year Gap Summary: Continuing on as a teacher at Xavier's, Alison soon formed a new generation of X-men with Julian Keller. This team, called the X-Terminators, was comprised mostly of their former classmates and friends, seeing a rising need for a more offensive approach to the FoH's increasing number of assaults on the mansion and its inhabitants. Taking an active role in surveilance, infiltration and subversion showed definite results, a marked decrease in overt anti-mutant incidents could be seen during the year that the X-Terminators operated. The team, however, was not to last.
During his time at Westchester Community College, Julian Keller (alias: Hellion) had stumbled upon a covert genetics operation underway in the college's nearly empty sciences building. Built as a sister program/offshoot of Dr. Kurt Connor's neogenics research program in 2000, it was shut down in 2003 for being suspected of causing the blackouts that spread across the east coast that August. Abandoned, but never fully dissembled, the lab was usurped by the Friends of Humanity and had been used for several years as a home base for their many experiments to try and prevent the propagation of the X-gene. Their motto: "Prevention is always better than a cure."
The X-Terminators' assault on this genetics operation proved ill-conceived and fatalistic, their raid met with a calculated onslaught. The team had fallen into a trap. After a grueling battle and an encounter with a strangely fortuitous mutant, it seemed as though the X-Terminators had won, however a righteous straggler from the FoH assault squad that had been decimated managed to detonate the self-destruct failsafe in the lab. Alison, unthinking, rushed to try and disarm the device only to find herself encompassed in the vaporizing blast.
No remains were found, and while some chose to hold out for hope, a small memorial service was held in Alison's honour. The X-Terminators disbanded after her death, Julian Keller unable to bring himself to lead the team without his partner, confidant and best friend.
