Memories make me sad

Whilst randomly surfing the net, I found out that Rainbow Lanes, the bowling alley where my parents often took me and my brothers on weekend afternoons, is now sitting boarded up and neglected. Or at least was as of April 2006; further googling is turning up info it's been cleaned up since then.

I have so many good memories of that place; it depresses me to see something beloved from my childhood turned into an eyesore. :( Bad enough that there's a huge storage building of some sort standing across the street where the little amusement park used to be. It was gone by about 1979, but the arcade survived another year or so before it burned down.

From the info I'm finding via Google, it looks like Rainbow Lanes closed sometime between 1997 and 2001. R.I.P.

Also, I've found out that a different amusement park my parents took us to, Buddy's Fairyland (we just called it "Buddy's".) closed at the end of the 2002 season. Sold the land for condos, I'm sure. R.I.P. Damn, it sucks getting older.

The last entertainment venue that isn't owned by Six Flags, please turn out the lights when you're done, 'k?

memories, brooklyn
