I finished Between Horizons yesterday. This game is about a generation ship traveling to another planet for humans to colonize. Then something happens that causes the ship to start to go off course. You play as Stella who is chief of security and your job is to try to determine what happened and why. You explore the ship, which is like a whole town, collecting evidence and talking to people. There are a number of cases to solve and each case poses a question you're trying to answer and you have to click on a piece of evidence to submit the answer, but you have to make sure that you're sure about the answer. So, it takes some careful deduction of the evidence. It's possible to make the wrong choice, but you're not really punished if you make a mistake. I did pick the wrong thing a couple of times, but every other case I came to the right conclusion.
To determine the right answer often required either coming up with a timeline of events or going through some process of elimination. This is a game that requires more thought and I did write notes down on my phone to try to figure things out. Even though all the information is on your PDA, it's not laid out in a very cohesive manner. That would probably be my one constructive criticism of the game. The evidence is kind of organized sloppily. I wish there were separate tabs for the characters and the evidence. There are a lot of characters and a lot of evidence that takes quite a bit of scrolling to find the relevant information you're looking for. It would have been useful if evidence that wasn't relevant to a case would disappear, but no you're stuck with all of it for the whole game. You can also question characters using the evidence, but their responses are limited to what's relevant, so there's no need to keep all that irrelevant evidence.
When you don't factor in all the running around all over the ship collecting information, this game was relatively short. I did really like the story, and the investigative nature put my mind to work. No voice acting except for some narrative story beats. I don't think I've played a game where I was exploring a generation ship before, so that was pretty cool. It was nice to have a fast travel option as well. Apart from the organization issue, I'd say the only other downside is it's autosave only. Luckily it autosaves very often, however once you've submitted evidence, there's no going back to try again. It was a good game though with a solid sci-fi story. Here's a screenshot. This was one of the early cases you had to solve: determining which one of the terminals was hacked and it was a bit cryptic, but somehow I figured it out.
My next game is Neofeud, which is a cyberpunk adventure that looks like my kind of weird judging by the screenshots.
I also finished season one of Gargoyles several days ago. I just have some brief thoughts about it because any more would be getting into season two territory. Xanatos has really become like this evil Tony Stark character. I think in an alternate universe, Jonathan Frakes definitely could have played Iron Man. I'm actually surprised by the amount of TNG cast that have voiced characters on this show now. It's more than I was expecting. It's most of the cast of TNG at this point lol. At one point you had Riker, Deanna, and Worf in the same room, which was pretty funny to me. Was the creator of this show a fan of Star Trek or something? Demona is a psycho bitch who continues to get worse as the show goes on, but more on that perhaps when I finish season two, which is going to take longer because it's a long season. Fifty episodes. :O I'm currently on episode 11. Still enjoying it very much.
One last bit: I abandoned most of my new routine with the exception of one time block, which I've kept. It didn't work out like I hoped. Thought I would read more and I ended up reading less and my pain came back, which really sucks. I don't know if the routine had anything to do with it, but perhaps not because the pain's still there even after mostly going back to the old routine. This has affected my mood in a negative way again, but I don't really feel like talking about it.
