My Notable Movies of 2023

Jan 07, 2023 14:22

Time to get to my final list. That is My Notable Movies of 2023, or rather movies I have my eye on or otherwise look forward to in 2023. To be honest, I don't know what all is coming out this year apart from a handful of films, so this could get interesting. As always, release dates are subject to change and I likely won't see all the movies on this list and see other ones that are not featured. But let's just get things out of the way shall we?

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania - This is the first movie I really want to see this year, coming out in February. The director said he wanted this movie to be on the scale of an Avengers movie. I'm looking forward to it and it actually kicking off Kang as the new antagonist for this new phase of Marvel.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods - The release date for this one seemed to keep shifting around, but it's finally coming out in March. Looks like it could be just as fun as the first movie.

65 - Also competing with Shazam! Adam Driver battling dinosaurs is it earth's past or another planet? It looks thrilling. May be quite intense, but you know I'm going to see anything with dinosaurs. I mean, that's terrifying. These dinosaurs look terrifying.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves - I was never a D&D person, but I do appreciate it, and hopefully this will be a good Dungeons & Dragons movie. It looks fun at least, and how can you go wrong with Chris Pine?

The Super Mario Bros. Movie - Delayed from last year, it's finally coming out. I do have some nostalgia for Super Mario, as I did play it when I was a kid, even though I wasn't good at it. I think it looks great. Could end up being one of Illumination's best. I'll just give you this shot of Bowser. It looks cool.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - I literally just saw the trailer for this the other day when I went to see Avatar. It's the final Guardians movie and it looks like it will be emotional. It will go more into Rocket's backstory and I do know a bit about that. And it is tragic, but I'm sure there will be a lot of laughs too. That would be Adam Warlock.

The Little Mermaid - Disney's next live-action adaptation. They're not about to stop. We'll see. From the teaser, I do think that Halle Bailey's voice does kind of sound like Jodi Benson's. I hope that's not offensive to say. Since they're going with a more black cast, I thought it would be interesting if they set the story off the coast of Africa or in the Caribbean or something. Oh, and Lin Manuel Miranda wrote some new songs for the movie, so that should be good.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse - Is this not being divided into two parts anymore or will the follow up have a different title? Anyway, this one was another that was delayed by quite a bit. Now finally coming out. Still excited to see more spider-people I'm familiar with. Like, I'm pretty sure that's Miguel aka Spider-Man 2099.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts - It's not directed by Michael Bay, so that's always a plus for me. Is this going to be kind of Beast-Wars-esquse? Optimus Primal? I'm probably completely wrong lol. Edit: No, I'm completely right. I still wish they'd do a movie without humans though. The movie does have a great cast though, including Peter Cullen still voicing Optimus Prime himself. Who else could be Optimus Prime?

The Flash - I don't know what's going on with this movie, and Ezra Miller is yeesh. That's all I can say about that. I almost wish they'd scrap it and redo things, but we'll see how this goes if it comes out.

Elemental - Pixar's next film. Is it actually going to be a romantic comedy? Because that could be fun. Something different. Yeah, visually it looks like Inside Out, but hopefully it distinguishes itself. The teaser was cute.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny - I'm not sure about that title, but I'm very excited about it. This will be Harrison Ford's last time playing Indy, so I hope it's a good send off. Mangold's a good director, so I have faith.

Harold and the Purple Crayon - What? This was one of my favorite kid's books. I didn't know they were making a movie! There's no shots from the movie yet, but it is going to be animated.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One - That title is a mouthful. I saw some behind the scenes footage when I went to see Avatar of Tom Cruise doing an insane parachute stunt off a cliff, so I know it's going to be big and entertaining as these movies usually are. Tom Cruise is getting up there though. I don't know how much longer he's going to be able to do this, and especially not get himself killed.

Oppenheimer - Christopher Nolan's latest and it looks very good and tense. I think I prefer his more historical films like Dunkirk, but I'm sure he's going to do the whole weird timeline thing again. I'd be surprised if he made a more straightforward movie.

Barbie - Is it weird that this is one of my most anticipated movies of the year? Well, it is. It's either going to be completely stupid or a hilarious parody. I only think it's going to go one of those two ways. So much talk about it on social media, that it's like become a meme by this point. All I can say is she better have a hundred jobs because then it would be accurate. My eyes. Somebody thought this was a great idea, and I'm glad they did.

The Marvels - Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel together. Plus, are they calling her Photon? I'm looking forward to it. No idea what the plot's going to be though.

Haunted Mansion - I thought Guillermo del Toro was doing this. I guess not. Will it even come out this year? No screenshots really.

Kraven the Hunter - Another movie about a Spider-Man villain. My fan casting for this guy was always Gerard Butler, but oh well. No idea if it will be good or not.

Dune: Part Two - Another highly anticipated movie. I wonder if they are going to go beyond the first book though. I thought about reading the second book. No screenshots though again.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes - I didn't really care for the book. Am I still going to see the movie? Probably.

Wish - The next Walt Disney Animation studios feature that is a musical. I'm thinking it might be closer to movies from Disney's golden era and I like the premise. Only got concept art so far.

Wonka - This is I assume an origin story for Willy Wonka, so it's not going to be a like an adaptation of the book. Timothee Chalamet is Wonka. It could be interesting.

Untitled Ghostbusters Afterlife Sequel - I didn't know this was coming so soon. I have my doubts it will even come out this year, but I'm ready for it.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom - Delayed by a whole year. Just remove Amber Heard already.

And, that's it. A lot of movies. There's actually a lot I want to see in the summer time. It's going to be packed with a lot of big blockbusters. Done with these blogs now. Back to my regularly scheduled programming.
