Disneyland in a Heatwave

Sep 28, 2022 17:00

So, we made out to Disneyland amidst a heat wave. All things considered, I fared better than I thought I would. It probably helped that I wore a hat. Something I need to do now due to hair loss. I have less protection. I did have to borrow a hat from my mom. I don't know where my favorite Sam and Max hat is. I was fine for most of the day until the end when we hopped over to DCA. We also stayed longer than I thought we would. I thought we would be leaving earlier than we did, but eh … I'll get into that. It was really busy, but I was also surprised by the shorter wait for some of the rides. We also rode more than I expected.

We made our way over through Adventureland. I showed my mom the now missing tree stump of Tarzan's Treehouse. They're still doing something with the tree, but what that is we still don't know. It's been closed forever. The time to announce something was during D23, but Disney had nothing to say about it, which is kind of worrying. It's weird seeing the stump gone now. Before passing by there, I was surprised to see Indy only thirty minutes. But why were there so many people gathered around the entrance? I told my mom we could tell how long the line is by looking at the outside queue. If it was filled, then the line was long, and that did seem to be the case. Plus, the time suddenly changed from 30 minutes to 40, so we opted out of that one. Anyway, my original plan was to go on Pirates first. Short line. Getting on Pirates is usually doable. Got to see the new Magnolia trees they planted in the queue. They also changed some tiny details in the ride itself. Like they lifted up the alligator more in the beginning, so it's more visible and the music in the ship cannon battle scene was changed, but that's all I remembered from watching Fresh Baked's videos.

After that, I showed my mom the new shop which is called Eudora's Chic Boutique. Very small inside there, but there's a few neat things to look at. It's dedicated mostly to kitchen stuff. Took a peek at Haunted Mansion Holiday. Of course the line was long, so we moved on. Then we headed over to Galaxy's Edge. Saw that the line for Rise of the Resistance was long. Moving along, we passed by Smuggler's Run. The wait time said 40 minutes, and I was surprised when my mom walked straight into the standby line. You never can tell with this ride, but it didn't appear to be a long line. The wait for this was kind of brutal. Apparently there were a lot of Lightning Lanes going through, which dragged down the standby to a slow crawl. They even made an announcement that the standby wait time had increased to 60 minutes, but we were getting close to the end, so that didn't really apply to us. It did end up taking a little over 40 minutes before we got on the ride. Maybe it was worth it though. Our pilots really didn't know what they were doing. They crashed a lot and it was hilarious and made things more fun actually.

After getting off that ride, we made our way over to Frontierland. There were a few shops I wanted to look in on this trip to check out their merchandise. The shop by the Golden Horseshoe (I don't know what it's called) has clothing with images from the Silly Symphony cartoon, “The Skeleton Dance,” which I think is cool. Then I had a plan for lunch. I wanted to try the Moco Loco Bao bun from Tropical Hideaway. Let's just say I was inspired by a Fresh Baked video I watched the other night where he had an Adventureland day. They weren't serving lunch food there when Fresh Baked went however and they weren't serving it yesterday either. Unfortunately, you kind of have to step in line to really see if that side is open. After standing in line maybe five minutes I realized that side was probably not open, so we had to change our plans. There's a bigger story about this regarding a stricter attendance policy for cast members. Long story short: Disneyland is going to be losing more cast members over it, and they really do like to shoot themselves in the foot don't they?

We changed our lunch plan to the Plaza Inn. This was the first of two incidents of app issues my mom faced. Her Magic Key wouldn't show up in the app to scan for the discount. We tried to use our printed out bar codes for the passes, but the cast member wouldn't accept that. My mom had to turn her phone off and on again, sign in again, and finally the key showed up. We shared the pot roast. It wasn't as great as I remembered. The pot roast at Docking Bay 7 is a lot better. But it was food.

Next we went over to Tomorrowland, and I was surprised to see that Star Tours only had a twenty minute wait. We went right in and it was almost a walk on. It was probably less than twenty minutes. We also got to see a couple scenes on the ride we hadn't seen in a while like the Wookie planet and the chase with Boba Fett. That led right into the Star Trader shop of course. The next store I wanted to look at. They have cool shirts there with story board art from the films. Then we meandered over to look at the subs, which are now back after nearly two or three years. Long line though, but it's nice to see the subs back.

So, then I thought we'd check out Fantasyland. Yeah, this was a lot of walking, but I was still doing OK. I got a bottle of water from lunch. We eventually ended up at Snow White. Not a bad wait for that either. While in line, I noticed Peter Pan and was surprised that the line looked shorter than it has ever been. I thought that maybe we could do it after Snow White. Just maybe. I kept eyeballing it and then became dismayed to see the line got longer. So close. Almost got to go on Peter Pan. I love Peter Pan, but I never get to go on it because the line is always long no matter what time of day it is. So, that was a little bit of a bummer, but I was ready for dessert.

Looking over the Halloween foodie guide previously, I found out they had a special Rocky Road Halloween Sundae at Gibson Girl, so I wanted to try it. It was good, but a little extreme on the chocolate. I don't think they actually used rocky road ice cream either. More like chocolate ice cream with nuts, marshmallow cream, fudge, whip cream, and sprinkles. It came in a waffle cone bowl covered with chocolate, nuts and more marshmallows. We didn't bother to eat any of the cone. That was just too much.

Now I was ready to head over to DCA, though I was starting to feel tapped out plus my left eye was really bothering me. I think I got sunscreen in it. My feet were hurting too so I wasn't having the best time anymore. But there were still a couple things I wanted to do. One was there was this Oogie Boogie Halloween decoration inside the Grand Californian hotel I wanted to check out. The problem is, it was an Oogie Boogie Bash night and DCA was starting to get really crowded with guests filing in for the upcoming event. And that meant there was a long line from Grand Californian to get in. We would have gotten stuck in that trying to get back into DCA. So, maybe next time.

The other thing I wanted to do was look for a new cap I could wear. It would be nice to have a Disney one seeing as I'll probably be wearing a hat to Disneyland more often when it's warm. But first we passed by the Little Mermaid to see how the line was. 25 minutes. Not really willing to wait that long. So, we made our way through Cars Land and Avengers Campus and caught a glimpse of the Hulk greeting guests. We wound up at the Avengers Super Store. I didn't see anything I liked. The problem with me is I'm picky. I was spent, so my mom let me sit on a bench while she checked out a little shopping stall outside. I still didn't like the hats they had there or a couple other stores we checked out. So, I didn't end up getting a hat. I might check Target tomorrow for something.

Now it was getting late but my mom just had to. She just had to get a turkey leg and her favorite bags of toffee. I was unwilling to go back with her to the turkey leg cart. So again, I sat on a bench on Buena Vista and sort of watched people coming in dressed in costumes. Can't see much with my hat and my eye was still bothering me. But I will say the most popular costume seemed to be Scarlet Witch. Oogie Boogie seems like it would be fun to do someday. Don't know if I ever will though. It's expensive, but from what I've seen, it looks like it's worth the cost.

Anyway, my mom came back with no turkey leg, but she wasn't ready to give up yet. She asked a cast member where they might have turkey legs, and they mentioned a cart over near Pacific Wharf. This time I went with my mom. Lo and behold there were turkey legs. There was a line, so I sat against a column to wait for my mom. Then the last thing was getting the toffee. And this was the second incident of the pass not showing up on the app. My mom actually had to go out of the store, turn the phone off and on again, and sign in again after getting a code in her email. Finally we got the toffee. Fix your f*cking wi-fi Disneyland! I hate that we have to use the app for everything. And after all that she only saved 30 cents lol.

I was having a fun time despite the heat. We stayed longer and did more than I thought we would. It was fun at least until DCA. I blame my mom entirely for that and her obsessive need for turkey legs lol. When I got home, my eyes/sinuses felt inflamed. I was completely drained and exhausted and still had trouble falling asleep in spite of taking Advil PM. I've been having a really hard time falling asleep and I'm frustrated about it. I need to find the best pillow. I'm going to try at Target again tomorrow. I slept in this morning, but I still feel really tired.
