I had a pretty nice Christmas, but it was off to a late start this year. Both of my parents have been sick since Thanksgiving. Yeah, I really don't know what's going on there. :/ But luckily I've been fine *knocks on wood*. So, decorations went up late and not all of them went up. My mom thought we'd never get the tree up, but we finally did. The presents were wrapped a couple days before, and we went shopping for dinner stuff on Christmas Eve. Not recommended. It's stressful. Sometimes we have the Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve and sometimes on Christmas day. This time we chose Christmas Eve. Our dinner was pretty simple: ham we got from Trader Joe's because my brother recommended it, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn and Cheesecake Factory rolls. It wasn't perfect. I liked the ham, but my mom thought it had a weird texture. The potatoes were overcooked. I still liked them at the time, but as leftovers, not so much. We also had apple pie for dessert which was good and earlier my mom and I had decorated these "ugly sweater" cookies. That was really fun because I got to use my drawing skills. :P They turned out great. As for taste though, eh... they're OK, but probably better for just looking at. After dinner we didn't play any games, Grammy just shared some corny dad jokes with us. Then afterward we watched The Santa Clause while eating pie.
On Christmas morning of course I went to my stocking first. I got a History magazine about ancient civilizations, some Burt's Bees chapstick, drawing pencils specifically for drawing, and Snickers Christmas trees. I tried one of them. It didn't really taste like Snickers. I detected no peanuts. Then we had our usual breakfast of french toast and bacon. As for my gifts I got everything on my list including of course the bookshelves, which we're going to put together soon and my new desk. That leaves gifts I got from Grammy. Two of them I'm probably not going to use. One was a little bag with a snowman on it and markers to color the snowman. I don't know what I'd do with that. And the other is about two dozen pens. There's no way I need that many pens *shrugs*, but there was one gift I probably will have a use for. This was actually a shared gift between my mom and I. It's a book by Jeffrey Archer called Only Time Will Tell. I think he mostly writes historical fiction, which this one is. I think one of my goal's for 2020 is to branch out more into other genres besides sci-fi and fantasy, so this book works for that. That was about it.
After we unwrapped our gifts, we just spent the rest of the afternoon in the kitchen, again reading jokes from the Reader's Digest magazine my dad got in his stocking, and another one I received a couple years ago. Again no games were played. But my mom had gotten Trouble for us to play for a little while while we waited for Grammy to come over. We did that for like five minutes.
Now I really don't have time to type anymore for this post because we're getting things together in my room to prepare for putting the bookshelves together, so I'm signing out for now. Will be back for New Year's.
