Valentine's and the Chinese New Year at Disneyland

After being turned down a couple of times, we finally made it out to Disneyland yesterday. It was crowded, but we did quite a few rides, although they were mostly dark rides as the more popular rides had longer lines. But we had a pretty good time I'd say and observing the Valentine's Day decorations and the Lunar New Year section at DCA for the first time was quite nice.

I was pretty indecisive for this trip to start off with because I didn't really have anything specific in mind I wanted to see. But we went to get fastpasses for Star Tours first, or at least we would have if my mom knew how to read signs. She got fastpasses for Buzz Lightyear by mistake. We couldn't get fastpasses for Star Tours for another half hour, so we just went on Buzz Lightyear. Then we had a little more time to kill so we went into the Star Trader shop. After Star Tours, it was time for lunch. I was in the mood for pot roast so we shared that at the Plaza Inn. Then we thought we'd get warmed up by spending time in Hell on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. :P Then I wanted to go on Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin since it's been a while since I've been on it. That was fun, but it seems as jerky as Indy. :S And speaking of which, we headed over there, but the line was too long for that, so I suggested we go on the Jungle Cruise. The skipper we got was this old guy. I wonder if he's been doing this for a long time. We got some new jokes I haven't heard before and I just noticed there was a warning sign before the piranhas, which I never actually noticed before. And I was wondering if there would be any comments made about the new Tropical Hideaway, and there was indeed a comment or two. Speaking of that I've been wanting to try the new Dole Whips there. They have raspberry pineapple and orange pineapple. However, it's been too cold of course, so I'm waiting for it to warm up a bit. After the Jungle Cruise we headed to Frontierland. I wanted to get a funnel cake. We shared it. It was yummy, but boy did we regret eating it afterwards lol. Then we tried to go to Pirates, but there was a long line, so we decided to go across the way to DCA.

At DCA we headed to Radiator Springs Racers. Nope, long line there, even the single riders line, so that was out. I suggested we go on the Little Mermaid ride. So, we did that. Then when we got off, I thought we'd try Monster's Inc, but then I remembered I wanted to check out the Chinese Lunar New Year area. They celebrate every year in February, but this is the first time we checked it out. It's actually quite nice. There are different activities there like making paper lanterns, a meet and greet with Mushu, and food kiosks with Chinese food. They also had music playing. An all Chinese women group called Melody of Asia played their Chinese instruments, and we stuck around to listen to them a bit and talk about their instruments. They're based out of San Francisco. Listening to the music was pretty relaxing. Then we tried to go to Monster's Inc. Of course that was long too, so we spent a brief time in the Off the Page shop. We did have to get home to go grocery shopping afterward. So, overall it was a nice visit. In spite of the crowds, we did quite a bit and saw a couple new things.

Next month will be the food festival. There's no menu out yet, but I'll be looking forward to it.
