Disneyland in December

Going to Disneyland in December was a mistake. In fact, I might have to rethink going there in December at all. The crowds were so insane that it might as well have been a Summer day. The temperature was right for it anyhow. The day was already not off to a good start as we left the house later than I wanted to. When we got down to the security check line, which normally goes pretty quickly, we got stuck with a security guy that wanted to chat with everybody who went by. I was growing increasingly irritated (tired and it was hot). When we finally got through there, which took way longer than it should have, and walked over to the tram area, I took one look at those crowds and said to my mom that we should just walk to the parks. I was surprised that she was OK with doing that as the more walking we do, the more her foot was going to hurt. We had the idea to catch the Monorail into Disneyland. A good plan because it's not as far to walk rather than going all the way through Downtown Disney. Got to the line for the Monorail and saw it was a 30 minute wait. WTF? It's never like that. Guess what happened next? Yeah, we walked all the way through Downtown Disney. *Sigh* At this rate, it probably would have just as long waiting for the tram. It was almost noon by the time we got into Disneyland. I muttered to my mom that I probably wouldn't want to stay long. These were practically meltdown inducing levels of crowds.

So, the first thing I wanted to do was Star Tours because they added the new scene from The Last Jedi. I knew we were going to have to get a Fastpass for it. According to my Mouse Wait app, they weren't available, but that wasn't true. This app is starting to become useless. We had a return time between 1:45 and 2:45. So we had time to do other stuff, but I needed a sitting break so we went to the hub where Walt's statue is and sat on a bench there. It was nice until some Cast Members decided they needed to rearrange the benches for some event and we had to move. How rude. :P Never found out what that event was. Well, I was getting hungry by this time, so it was a good time to head across the way to DCA because there were a couple more foods from the Festival of Holidays I wanted to try.

First thing we tried was the Chorizo Queso Fundido, which was really yummy. It's tortilla chips with cheese dip and bits of Chorizo. And then I needed something to drink after that. My mom got this pineapple fruit punch drink to share, which would have been fine if they didn't throw these gummies in there. :/ Then I tried the cheesy scalloped potatoes. Unfortunately they were too salty. Disappointing. Lastly I got a little dessert, which was the Milk Chocolate Candy Cane Pot de Crème Cup. It's a fancy word for chocolate pudding with candy cane pieces lol. That was good. And that's the end of our food sampling for the Festival of Holidays as it will be gone by the time we head back to Disneyland.

We did some Pokemon hunting to kill time before going back to Disneyland for Star Tours. Got to see the new scene from The Last Jedi, which takes you to the planet of Crait. TBH it was nothing too special aside from when dust covers up the window and R2-D2 blows up one of the Walkers. Earlier, after we got a fastpass for the ride we went into the Star Tours store (I know it's not called that, but whatever) so I could see if they have any Porg shirts. Well, they did have one and only one. It was a sweater and it looked too warm to me, so I passed. Maybe after the movie they'll have more. I'll keep checking.

So that left us for what to do next. Well, it was our last chance to see the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay before they take it down. I knew the line would be long, but maybe we could have gotten a Fastpass. As we walked down Frontierland though and I caught sight of the Mark Twain I suddenly remembered I wanted to go on it to see the changes made to the Rivers of America. So, that's what we did and got a birds eye view of the insane crowds. My mom also could see the Fastpass return times for the Haunted Mansion and it wasn't until 5:50 so that was out. Sad we had to miss out on the Haunted Mansion Holiday this year, but what can you do. As for the Rivers of the America, yeah you can kind of tell they shortened it, but it's been a long time since I've been on the Mark Twain so I don't remember all the details. It was a nice cruise even though we had to stand the whole time. And that was the end of our trip. It wasn't such a great time and kind of miserable, but sometimes there will be days like that.
