4th Of July

Jul 05, 2017 11:13

Never liked the 4th of July and I've stated my reasons numerous times, and this year it did start out kind of crappy, but ended OK I guess. My brother had this idea that he wanted to invite his friends over to the house for a barbecue. We just got a new one. It turned out to be the same as the old one that had its knobs get melted off, but maybe they've made improvements since then. The problem is my brother gave my mom little notice that he wanted to do this, and the house needed to be cleaned up. And then he decided not to lift a finger to even help. >:( My dad wasn't helping matters any either.

Here my mom is on her hands and knees scrubbing the bathroom floor when my dad comes in. He complains about her not making bacon (He could have easily cooked it himself. We got the bacon at the store as well as cinnamon bread for french toast and eggs. She didn't have time to make the latter two things so we just had cinnamon toast and bacon), and cleaning instead. Now he's complaining that she IS cleaning. He'll always complain when she doesn't clean, but now he's also complaining when she does. She just can't win with him. It's about the order of things for him. He wants things done his way only. To give another example, my dad will also get mad if my mom doesn't turn the car engine off before taking down the sunshade from the windshield. Yeah, trivial crap like that. In the kitchen, by the time I got down to breakfast my mom was already fuming. I could already tell something was up when I got out of the shower that morning because I had heard yelling coming from downstairs, so she told me the story. She muttered about going over to Grammy's house and I like the idea. Then my brother comes in and says something that was the last straw for my mom. My brother asked her about the french toast and she said we were just going to have cinnamon toast, and his response was "What, too lazy?" Now, we both knew my brother didn't really mean those words in a derogatory way, more in a "sometimes you're just too lazy to cook" way. Only thing was it wasn't because she was lazy here, it's because didn't have time because she had to clean (which my brother was not helping with at all, yet he wanted to have this party). I knew that was it for my mom. She didn't deserve to be disrespected like this. A little while later I got a text from my mom saying we were going to Grammy's so we went to Grammy's. My mom told my dad we'd go over there to see if she needed help with anything (not exactly a lie).

We go to Grammy's and my mom vents to her about what happened. Then we convince her to come over later. Dang I was hoping we would stay with Grammy for the rest of the day rather than having to deal with the stress of a ton of strangers coming over. It wasn't really a problem though. It was all kind of weird though. It was my brother's own party in the backyard, while the rest of us were left to do our own thing. It might as well have been like my brother asked my parents to borrow our house to host the party. I had to be alone in my room for a while with the constantly crying dog because he can't be trusted around strangers or Grammy. The hours were ticking by and I was beginning to starve. Eventually my mom came up and I asked if I wanted a rib or a tuna sandwich. Like I'm going to have a messy rib in my room. I went for the sandwich. Finally by three she brought up my prison food :P Whole tuna sandwich and bbq chips. Eventually I came out again so the dog got free, behind the gate of course.

My mom, my dad, and Grammy were about to play Scattergories Categories in the living room. Really? It's hard to play that game (especially with Grammy) without a fight breaking out lol. But it turned out OK. While we were playing my brother pops in and talks about how he feels bad that his friends ate almost all of the bbq stuff and we didn't get any. At the store we ended up getting chicken, ribs and Carne Asada. The Carne Asada was the only thing left, which was overcooked. We said it was fine and actually good they ate all that food up. There were eleven people in all that came. Crazy right? Only one girl in the bunch lol. My brother had invited Leah over so she could finally meet him, but she didn't show. She probably wasn't ready for that yet. Also got the age she is: 20. My brother's picking 'em too young lol.

After Scattergories we went back into the kitchen and played a round of Skip-Bo. I won. :D I went back to my room, but came down later to have dinner and that was it. Bad start to the day, but turned out fine in the end I suppose. The guys stayed out in the back under a shade we just bought. They didn't come in except to go to the bathroom. So, it wasn't too anxiety inducing. It was also probably the most quiet 4th of July ever. Didn't hear many fireworks going off until later of course. Usually, I'm always hearing them a lot even the day before. This time I really only heard a few pops.
