Last night on Grey's Anatomy they had a doctor who had Asperger's Syndrome. I knew it right from the start and she later said so at the end of the episode. I thought that was cool and she did a pretty good portrayal of it.
Then the other day my mom and I were in Starbucks and my mom saw a flyer for Walk Now for Autism. Then we got into a little conversation
Mom: Hey, you want to walk now for autism?
Me: Only if it's not pro-cure (I look at the flyer to see that indeed it's backed by AutismSpeaks). Oh yep, it's backed by AutismSpeaks, which is an evil corporation.
Mom: Why?
Me: Because all they care about is profit and curing autism.
Mom: Well I understand profit is bad, but curing is not bad.
Me: They're both bad.
Mom: Why is curing bad?
Me: Because it would be like trying to cure someone of their own brain. (My mom starts to get this analogy)
Mom: Oh I see, then maybe treatment would be better instead.
Me: Yeah, what exactly are they curing?
So, now she knows my stance on the idea of a cure.
Unrelated: I don't know whether or not using humor for a serious situation is a good idea or not.
