Tribute to Old Disney Live Action Films 1950s-1980s

Aug 20, 2007 11:12

I was on the internet yesterday when my mom said to me "what are you smiling about?" Only I was totally unaware I was even smiling. Hmm...makes me wonder how many times this has happened.

I've been re-playing this game called The D Show. It's a Disney trivia game from the 90s and it's really fun. Then I got to thinking after seeing these old live action movies on there I didn't realize how many there were. Many of them looked worthy of a watch too. So, I wanted to make a tribute post to those Disney live action films from the 50s to the 80s. Some of them I remember, some I have yet to see

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea(1954)

Can you believe I've never seen this?

The Absent Minded Professor and Son of Flubber(1961, 1963)

The creation of Flubber. I also haven't seen this.

The Apple Dumpling Gang(1975)

About the Gold Rush. I haven't even heard of this until now, but it has Don Knotts, so it ought to be good.

Babes in Toyland(1961)

Haven't seen it.

Bedknobs and Broomsticks(1971)

Love, love, love this movie. Great effects for its time too.

Blackbeard's Ghost(1968)

I hadn't heard of this one really, but I love Peter Ustinov.

Candleshoe(1977)

I hadn't heard of this, but I watch pretty much anything Jodie Foster's in.

The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes(1969)

I haven't seen any of the Dexter Riley movies, but I'll be sure to because yep that's right, I love Kurt Russell.

Darby O'Gill and The Little People(1959)

I know this one is a classic. We own it, but I haven't seen it yet, and mmm...Sean Connery.

Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier(1955)

Not really a movie persay, but the first three stories of the TV series. My parents are familiar with it, and they actually went to Fess Parker's winery.

Escape to Witch Mountain(1975)

I only remember seeing the 1995 remake on the Disney channel once, but I want to see the original.

Flight of the Navigator(1986)

I can never get enough of this movie. I love it. I could probably watch it over and over.

Follow Me, Boys!(1966)

More Kurt Russell as a wee lad.

Freaky Friday(1976)

I only saw the remake, which was ok, but the original is usually better right?

The Great Locomotive Chase(1956)

Fess Parker again. Never saw it.

Gus(1976)

A football playing mule. Never saw it.

The Happiest Millionaire(1967)

This is supposed to be a classic, but I never saw it.

The Herbie movies from 1969-80

I'm in love with the Love Bug movies. I remember watching them on the Disney channel. I will not see that dreadful remake.

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids(1989)

The original was always the best, and it had great effects.

The Incredible Journey(1963)

This was before Homeward Bound, but Homeward Bound was a classic too in it's own right. In this one the animals don't talk and I've only seen part of it on TV.

Johnny Tremain(1957)

This one seems to be a classic. I only remember reading the book in 8th grade.

Kidnapped(1960)

Another classic. This one looks fun and adventuresome.

The Light in the Forest(1958)

Plot almost sounds like that movie Little Big Man. Another Fess Parker.

Mary Poppins(1964)

Everyone loves Mary Poppins, including me. I remember when I was little I always wanted to jump into chalk drawings like they did.

Midnight Madness(1980)

This was Michael J. Fox's first film. It's about a scavenger hunt. Looks like a fun romp.

The Million Dollar Duck(1971)

I had heard of this, but never saw it.

The Moon-Spinners(1964)

People seem to like this one. I never saw any of the Hayley Mills films.

Napoleon and Samantha(1972)

This was Jodie Foster's first film. It features a pet lion named Major. I very much want to see this.

Never Cry Wolf(1983)

Wolves yay!

The North Avenue Irregulars(1979)

Church people attacking criminals.

Old Yeller(1957)

This movie is hard to watch because it's so sad. Fess Parker again.

The Parent Trap(1961)

Again only saw the 1998 remake with Lindsay Lohan. Never watched a Hayley Mills movie.

Pete's Dragon(1977)

I adore this movie. In fact, I want to own it. This was back when Don Bluth was animating for Disney.

Pollyanna(1960)

This looks like a good upbeat optimistic film.

Return to Oz(1985)

I keep hearing about how strange this movie is. It has become a cult classic and is up there with movies like Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal.

Savage Sam(1963)

This is the sequel to Old Yeller.

The Shaggy Dog and D.A.(1959, 1976)

I only saw the original and the 1994 TV remake. No way I'm going to see the Tim Allen version.

Something Wicked This Way Comes(1983)

Based on the Ray Bradbury novel of the same name. Haven't seen the movie nor read the novel.

The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men(1952)

Yet another Robin Hood movie.

Summer Magic(1963)

Another Hayley Mills.

Swiss Family Robinson(1960)

Another classic I haven't seen. *Shock* Unfortunately they are going to be remaking this one too. Why???

The Sword and the Rose(1953)

Looks musketeerish.

That Darn Cat!(1965)

I only saw part of the 1997 remake. I suppose a PG-13 version would be called That Damn Cat? :P At one point it seemed like Disney was really into cats, as you'll soon see. They made a few movies on them.

The Third Man on the Mountain(1959)

This is the movie The Matterhorn is based off of, so I have to see it.

The Three Lives of Thomasina(1964)

This is a personal favorite of mine. Another cat movie. Only movie to make me cry ever! So, I decided to put it on the netflix list. I always had an affinity for cats when I was younger. I would meow at them and they would meow back. I had a really realistic sounding meow, and I was best friends with my grandma's cat Biscuit.

Those Calloways(1965)

Yet another I haven't seen and don't know much about.

Toby Tyler(1960)

Never heard of this one either.

Treasure Island(1950)

Only familiar with the Muppets version.

Trenchcoat(1983)

Disney refuses to acknowledge they made this. Same goes for Midnight Madness.

Tron(1982)

Now there's a classic. I actually didn't like this when I watched it. I probably should give it another go.

The Watcher in the Woods(1980)

Another one of those cult classics. I haven't seen it.

Westward Ho, The Wagons!(1956)

Wagons and Fess Parker.

The Cat From Outer Space(1978)

Imagine if cats came from outer space. I haven't seen this, but I put it on the netflix list.

Well that's it. Not really, but Wikipedia doesn't seem to have every Disney live action film. Most of these I haven't seen. Like around 97%. I guess I really have a lot to see.
