My grandma died yesterday. My mom and I were going to the bookstore to meet Joan, and we were ordering drinks from the coffee shop when my mom got the call. So, we had to leave. I saw Joan give my mom a hug and then I gave her a hug. The first time I ever initiated a hug ever actually. My mom dropped me off at home and drove to the nursing home to see what to do next.
My grandma had really gone downhill this month. It started from a call to my mom at the beginning of this month saying she was scared and was having trouble breathing and was afraid she was going to die. She accepted placement into a nursing home near her place soon after. My mom and I went to go visit her a couple of weeks ago. When I saw her I was shocked because she looked like a living skeleton, literally. She was skinny before, but this time she had lost a lot of weight. Her weight was 68 lbs. She talked a little with us while we were there, but my mom wanted to move her to a nursing home closer to us.
So, last week she was transferred to a new nursing home. A couple of days ago my mom visited her there. She was talking a little, but having a lot of trouble breathing. Then just yesterday my mom recieved a call from Hospice saying that my grandma had declined and wasn't verbal, but still alert. Then late that afternoon is when my mom got the call that her mom was gone.
On top of this, my uncle's mom, Rita is also in a nursing home now. All I know of that is she had a fall, but a couple of months ago she was having pneumonia and her kidneys were failing. She overcame the pneumonia, but I don't know if she's still having trouble with her kidneys. They say she's there for temporary recovery, but don't know if she'll get well.
But that's not all, oh no that's not it. My dad is facing the danger of being laid off in his job. He says that his entire division might be sold off. Also if it does happen and he can't find another job here, we might have to move out of state.
Conclusion: This year has sucked so far.
grandma,
bad news,
death
