update on hands/etc

Nov 16, 2009 15:46

Just got back from an EMG, and the physician that reviewed it declared I showed no signs of nerve illness or damage in my arms or my right leg (they had extra time and threw a leg in to the mix). Which is apparently code for "it isn't MD." He said the muscles themselves appear to be behaving correctly as well. It was especially interesting because my right hand was "doing it" to some degree during the test itself - so, if I'm not showing signs *while it's happening*...

So...a systemic problem that isn't orthopedic, muscular, or caused by my peripheral nervous system.

That leaves...not a whole lot. Either I've been making it up my whole life (I can't remember it not being a problem - was already at the doc for it as early as age 7), OR...it's something with my spine or brain. And note that the problem can even happen while I'm asleep (wakes me up, yes) so...take that however you wish.

Or maybe there's something I don't understand about the whole bit, and there's still peripheral explanations for the systemic problem...? Will find out more next week.
