I had a FANTASTIC Labor Day weekend. One of the highlights was attending my first Rib America Festival downtown with Damon. We headed out early Monday afternoon to check out
The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band. If you haven't seen them, holy crap, do. You need to see, nay, experience them, at least once. People ask me about their sound, to which I usually just say, "Swampy. It's swampy blues," which may or may not be an actual style of blues. Per wikipedia: "The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band is a 3-piece American roots blues band, playing original music in the style of rural blues musicians of the 1920s and 1930s." Regardless, just
open their myspace page in a new tab and let it be the soundtrack to this entry....
Damon went to high school with Josh (Rev.) Peyton, and I had the pleasure of seeing them at a gig at Bloomington's Bluebird last year sometime. Afterward, we piled into their tour van and went to White Castle (it's a semi-annual thing - White Castle - for me.). They were the nicest people, and were fascinating to talk to.
Here are some of the shots I got from their show at RibFest --
